Hi all, we're aware of the dump issue and are working on it. It doesn't happen every time you close the app, it's a bit more nuanced than that. We will also clean up any dump files this has produced when we fix it. They're typically less than 100KB each so shouldn't cause any serious issues in the meantime.

Yesterday we released a patch to fix a bug where automatic updates was affecting the Smart Cleaning setting. Both of these settings use the background process of CCleaner. Originally this process was built for Smart Cleaning (a feature that checks the PC context to see where automatic cleaning or alerts can help, e.g. lots of junk is piling up or you closed your browser and can automatically clean it), but in this release we wanted to decouple this because it seems reasonable that some people want only autoupdates and not Smart Cleaning, or vice versa. Unfortunately our efforts to decouple these fully were not completely successful and a bug crept in. As soon as we saw this reported we fixed it.

So, as of v5.74.8198 Smart Cleaning will stay off if you switch it off, and CCleaner will only remain running in the background if Smart Cleaning or AutoUpdates is enabled.

Aside from that, we are applying an update to pull people running outdated versions of CCleaner up to the latest version so that cleaning definitions match the Windows and browsers from today instead of yesteryear. This will use a special update definition called 'Important Update', introduced in 2018. Anyone can opt out of that from the Updates menu in CCleaner, and over the past weeks we have communicated this through notifications from the app to provide some forewarning. We have no problems with some people staying on older versions if they know what they're doing and understand the risks, but there are many millions of less-clued-in users running CCleaner with severely outdated cleaning definitions and potentially getting themselves into difficulty. There have been lots of big changes to how Windows, Chrome and Firefox store data within that timeframe, and also the launch of Edge Chromium (which will soon become the default Windows 10 browser and stores data completely differently to 'Edge Junior'). We have a responsibility to provide a safe cleaning experience and that is why we are undertaking this exercise. Except for critical security updates or where a bug or conflict could cause serious harm, we always provide ways of opting out of updates and that seems a fair compromise that allows us to keep millions of CCleaner users in sync with Windows and a wide number of browsers, while also affording control to those who desire it.

If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them. If I don't respond immediately, you may need to PM me to get my attention. Thanks.

I am using the CC Free Version, the settings of AutoUpdates are not enabled, and I want them that way :p

How to stop CCUpdate.exe from Task Scheduler?
NetLimiter detects it in the Activity Tab

I don't trust CC as before

Have you tried to insert Adric's rules in the Hosts file (found in some post behind) minus the rule that prevents the software Home page from being reached?

    Even with important updates unchecked.
I can block the pop-up with:

    Code:
    0.0.0.0 www.ccleaner.com
    CCleaner web page becomes unreachable.
Of course it is not possible to install version 5.75 in Windows XP.

    ;)
Certainly, but since the latest build cannot be installed in Windows XP......
The purpose was to check if there are security updates for my OS from time to time.

thanks, stapp. yes i'd used those parameters back when i was using the installer version. but i'm using the portable version now and i'd rather use a dedicated button to clean & restart/shutdown.

just to be able to delete some locked files which requires a reboot.

The problem with MajorGeeks is that the first link download the old version and the other two links don't work (at least still). :)

Btw CCleaner didn't update the link for the free version yet:

    https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download/standard

This download 5.75, but this works fine:

    https://download.ccleaner.com/ccsetup576.exe
