at: https://www.auslogics.com/en/software/windows-slimmer/ I tried both CCleaner and HDcleaner but this one cleaned the WinSXS folder quite well subjective note: not sure it this is related , though after running this soft I finally fixed some Shadow Defender problem I was having with the SD icon disappearing under shadow mode, it might be placebo but I feel some software behave better and my PC feels a little bit snappier in some situations (lol). So u can try it for 5 minutes , clean the WinSXS and uninstall it (if not needed) since its quite limited, there is the update cleaning and stuff that you can do better with the windows default tool HDcleaner would be better to use periodically on a side note: I really liked the uninstall apps option as it has clean interface, also beware of unwanted application install during setup, unthick all stuff and select deny on first two pop ups
There is an option to clean up unused windows features. This is exactly what I have been looking for... to be able to purge (not just disable) features like remote desktop, printing and a whole slew of others that I dont use which do nothing but increase the attack surface for malware. Edit: Far easier than ntlite or similar programs Edit: Port sharing is another one I'm happy to be rid of
I would advise against messing with the WinSxS folder, as this could lead to component store corruption. So be sure to create a System Image and a System Restore Point first. I tested in the past DISM++, System Backup Cleaner (included in the 360 TS) and a few other tools and the results were not so good. Even sfc /scannow, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and SFCFix (with scripts) were unable to fix the issues this time and I had to restore the system to the previous working state. If you need to reduce the WinSxS size better use the internal tools instead (Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup and cleanmgr /sageset) to avoid further problems with Windows Update and probably to ask for help in the SysNative forum or to reinstall Windows. So be careful.
I would advise against it to, but in my case it fixed some issues I was having on 3 different computers with different setups so it appears to be working just fine at any rate, it leaves some garbage behind even if you uninstall it and even if assisted by geek uninstaller and similar that removes leftovers, Rogue Killer will remove the leftovers so pontetial PUP at installation (if you don't read the options carefully) and after uninstaling it, be mindful of this, I don't think its malware just garbage leftovers
One good thing is that it can completely get rid of of edge and it's 3 entries, thus completely remove edge product which was previously hard and had to use a script don't know if it's hard in newest version it was hard 1 year ago on windows
