To me it looked too complex, not comparable to Sandboxie at all.

Hi, a big thread bump, and a major request - does anyone have a copy of rehips 2.1.0 ?
Had an issue with rehips - and updated after using version 2.1.0 for three years.
Versions 2.2.0 - 2.3.0 -2.4.0, do not work - they cause app crashes on my computer.
So if anyone has the installer for version 2.1.0 - can they please reply and send it.
The original link from years ago was "beta.re-hips.com/download/ReHIPSSetup.exe"

Also looking for version 2.2.0_RC2 - the original link was "https://re-hips.com/ReHIPSSetup_2.2.0_RC2.exe".

    Any installer version for rehips 2.1.0 beta - 2.2.0 beta rc2 rc3 rc4.

    Thank you.

Hi, I don't find any option to disable alerts from the tray in free version( I blocked some executables with ReHIPS). That is really disappoiting.

I just installed ReHIPS version 2.5.0 RC1 in Virtualbox. I'm really liking what I see. This is the first time I have gave ReHIPS a try in years. Has anyone tried using ReHIPS with AppGaurd? I have AppGuard installed on my Host machine and I wonder if they would conflict with each other since they perform and work in a similar manner.

    They work together.
In fact, the digital signature of AppGuard should be recognized in ReHIPS by default, because it's on the trusted vendors list.

Yeah, I saw AppGuard's digital signature on the Trusted Vendor's List. I was just wondering since I have used similar software like Bouncer from Excubits with AppGuard in the past and under certain conditions there was a definite conflict with AppGuard and Bouncer. I'm going to keep using ReHIPS in my VM for a while. It make be just right for me.

I'm looking for a manual on their website so I can learn more about how ReHIPS works under the hood. I know it uses Windows own built-in mechanisms, but i'm trying to learn exactly what all it's sandboxing technology is restricting when it comes to vulnerable apps.

The "manual" is this: https://forum.rehips.com/index.php?board=13.0 Ask the dev whatever is still unclear.
There are free permanent licenses for running ReHIPS in VM. If you can't find it on the forum, PM me.
I ran AppGuard with ReHIPS in the past, as did others I know, but I don't have AppGuard installed right now to try it out practically on the new version.

Thank you for the link and information about the License! I'm reading about the mitigation techniques that ReHIPS uses now. I will look into the license you mentioned for VMs.

I'll just go ahead here and be a shmoe without doing the homework to find out when their actual last update was. Over a year-and-a-half ago maybe at least? I was surmising this may have become another sad case of abandonware. Great to see yet another sandbox app alive and well. But to be fair, their website is one of the most void of application information for the consumer I've ever seen. And what were the modifications involved in this newest release? What ever. The more of their ilk the merrier. To 2022 and beyond!....

How does ReHIPS isolated program protection compare to AppGuards Guarded Apps? I know ReHIPS works differently and is more of a sandboxing program, but I'm curious what Isolated programs can and can't do compared to AG. For example does ReHIPS prevent reading and/or writing to memory of other processes?

I installed ReHIPS in my Windows 7 VM, but after install it won't start:

The Windows update for SHA256 digital signatures was already installed previously. HIPSGui32.exe shows valid signatures in the file properties. Though there are 2 of them, one from REHIPS LCC and one from Microsoft Windows Software Compatibility Publisher.

1 ReHIPS isolated apps is totally different from AppGuard's Guarded Apps. At the most basic level, each ReHIPS isolated app is running in its own standard user account and therefore has no access to the processes or the file system of your real user account or to any other user account for that matter. On top of that basic restriction, there are many other restrictions.
2 ReHIPS has a problem with Windows 7 that I was not able to resolve. You and me are not the only ones who encountered this bug/feature/issue or whatever it is. You can try asking on the ReHIPS forum.

What is an easy way to install updates for an isolated program? For example Firefox: inside the isolated environment it cannot update. If I right click Firefox shortcut, I get some options for ReHIPS such as "run isolated", but there is no "run unisolated" to start it quickly this way. I can alter the rules manually everytime but that is a pita. I guess I could just shutdown ReHIPS completely and launch it again after the program has updated, but I wonder if there is a more efficient way.

Thank you, I have asked on the ReHIPS forum. Unfortunately Windows 7 does not work with the new digital signatures, even if the Windows updates for SHA256 signatures are installed. So you can either keep using 2.4 or enable testsigning.

Firefox should be able to update without issue in the isolated environment. If it doesn't ask on the forum. My memory of ReHIPS is rusty and I don't even have it installed right now because I am mainly on linux.

I don't have the Mozilla Maintenance service installed, so Firefox needs admin access to install updates. That is probably the reason why. When I installed Firefox again and installed the Maintenance service, it can install updates. Happens on SUA as well, it just fails without trying to get admin access.

Well, you can forget about admin access in a ReHIPS isolated environment at default settings. That's like having your cake and eating it too. (Famous English expression: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_can't_have_your_cake_and_eat_it )
But maybe there is a workaround or tweak for you, fixer on the ReHIPS forum would know.
