It seems whenever I launch Edge (Chromium-based version) it takes more than twice as long as it takes Google Chrome to load my home page! Is there some setting that might improve its load-time?
No such problem here, try to clean the browser cache, disable all extensions and see if it becomes better. Otherwise, try to run it without your third party security software turned on.
@Wendi give this extension a shot: https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/blank-tab/ihknoknoahjhldmpdoajjdkfjhddgpcd
I know many who experiences that Edge is slower in startup but faster when browsing then G.Chorme. Me to. Some says this helped a lot, for me, not. https://crystalidea.com/speedyfox Ms is aware of the problem and will solve it in a future update. https://www.thewindowsclub.com/startup-boost-feature-in-microsoft-edge
Uh, no thanks. if my security apps are causing this, I'll just use Chrome which doesn't seem to have any such problem.
What I suggested was a way to try to pinpoint the problem, reducing the number of variables, after all it doesnt make sense to Edge to be slower than Chrome, it should be at least on par. Anyway, you can always "just use Chrome" or better yet, buy a better PC
Edge still has the "hang on closing" bug. It's like 3 seconds or something. They'll get around to some of these in due time. There busy creating more "productivity" features that most folks don't need.
here's how: edge tries to fetch bing home page content from ms servers every time it's launched. this extension replaces default home/start page with a blank page. so it might help eliminate the load-time.
Edge launches almost instantly on here, even faster in all respects than Opera. So, that "booster" update may be for potato machines, sorry. Confirmed for the default homepage, getting that too this morning. Also, new tabs open as blank initially, then the blue-green logo fades in after a couple of seconds.
@Wendi adding to my previous post, here's another alternative that requires no extension. the only downside to this method is you need to delete "about:blank" from the address bar before typing in: settings -> on start up -> open a specific page or pages -> pages -> add a new page -> enter "about:blank" (without quotes) -> add. you're all set.
