Thanks for quick reply. I thought it was worth a shot if you have ran across this before with Webroot. Webroot has been on this computer for a very long time and has seen a lot of different Webroot versions. What I have removed has cleaned out Webroot from windows services, which brought booting up back to normal so I may just leave it as is. Thanks again.

The Core files are new within the last 6 months and they don't tell us much about them.

New files will be added in these locations:

    • C:\ProgramData\WRCore\CoreService
    • C:\ProgramData\WRCore\CoreService\Components\FCS\WRFCSUser.x86(.x64).dll
    • C:\ProgramData\WRCore\SkyClient\DB
    • C:\Program Files\Webroot\Components
    • C:\Program Files\Webroot\Core
    • C:\Program Files\Webroot\Core\WRCore.x64.sys

And two new processes will run:

    • WRCoreService.x64.exe
    • WRSkyClient.x64.exe

Description of each of the new components:

    • SkyClient is a new service used to communicate from the agent to our cloud backend.
    • WRCoreService is a new companion service that provides the foundation for our modular architecture.
    • WRCore.x64.sys secures inter-process communications and provides hash calculations.
    • Files in C:\ProgramData are shared across users. This includes determination database and logs.
    • Files in C:\Program Files are the primary executables and libraries
    • WRFCSUser looks for potentially malicious unknown processes and reports results to our Sky services.

Webroot is now pushing this update to all users and again "Webroot now does a gradual rollout method for releases. As such, not everyone will receive the update at the same time." But if you want it now download from here and install over top and do a reboot: https://anywhere.webrootcloudav.com/zerol/wsainstall.exe

    More info:

Agent changes in PC build 9.0.29.51 (Release starting September 1st, 2020)

    Fixed:

Compatibility issue with Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit and Internet Explorer.

    Fixed:

Possible agent crash at time of shutdown

    Added:

Componentinstall.log and ComponentUninstall.log for new MSI installed components. These files will be in %programdata%\WRData.

I have SecureAnywhere on one of my computers, and the password manager is not responding. I read that it is basically dead. Is that right? Why would Webroot let a known issue with the password manager languish?

It hasn't, you have to go through your online account to get the new password manager: https://community.webroot.com/passw...itch-from-password-manager-to-lastpass-337946

People change jobs. That's normal. Nothing surprising there. Especially when it comes to large companies where there are more personnel. Personally, I'd never heard of Charlie Tomeo.

Webroot glory days may be over, may be not. But I wouldn't base it on this piece of news. Let's wait and see.

I hope they are not over but with Webroot for Mac it looks like a total disaster. Hopefully they can get it working right but with OS Big Sur about to be released they could be behind the "8 ball" again with working failures and bugs. I really wish they would get their act together with the Mac Client because I sure do miss the Backup and Sync application in WSA. It was very easy to transfer files from Mac to PC and PC to Mac. But on the B&S I hear it's in the making they will be changing from Webroot's Backup and Sync to Carbonite B&S. The reviews to Carbonite B&S tell the story, not very good from what I read. I can't say much good or bad about WSA for PC because I hardly ever use the PC anymore, 90% of my time is on the Mac. We shall see how it all turns out. :)

I agree and who knows what OpenText has in mind for Webroot and co for the future. We keet getting told they can't say much to us now because OpenText is a Public Company so everything is hush, hush. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenText

I didn't know that, Dave. I have to admit that all I hear about Webroot for Mac suggests that it's far from good news. So I certainly feel for you :(.

However regarding Webroot B&S, I really can't understand what Webroot users here and on the Webroot Community are cheering about. I use Dropbox, have been using it for almost 10 years now and have never had the faintest problem. All of my data files and pictures have been synchronised all that time across all of my devices and DB has never performed less than flawlessly. Try that with Webroot B&S (I tried, several times, even with the help of Senior Escalation Engineer Lucas), and you will very quickly come to the conclusion that Webroot B&S could be more appropriately dubbed Webroot BS :gack:. Like, according to what I've heard, most bells & whistles are on most security apps

Just FYI: I opened a case with support on behalf of a customer and was provided a registry fix that lessened (but did not eliminate) the keystroke issues (ctrl+w,ctrl+t,etc) with ID Protection + Chrome/Chromium/derivatives on an impacted system. This took almost 3 months of badgering Webroot support to finally get somewhere w/escalation folks. Hope it helps.

Here's an excerpt from the ticket:
    Code:
Your case has been escalated for further review. I've read through your case, and I must say that I've encountered some vaguely similar issues with the ID Shield in the past. I would like to have you perform some steps below which may help resolve matters.

    1. Please download the following Zip file:
    - Click here to download the .zip (removed link, this is the file in question: http://download.webroot.com/CompatibilityFlag.zip)
    2. Locate the SecureAnywhere icon in your system tray.
    3. Right-click the system tray icon and select "Shut down protection."
    4. A prompt confirming whether you want to shut down appears. Click Yes.
    - Depending on your settings, you may have to complete a CAPTCHA for confirmation as well.
    5. Import CompatibilityFlag.reg from the .zip by double clicking on the file.
    6. Reboot the machine after confirming the import.

To reverse it, there's a second key to import. I'd recommend making a registry backup before importing or taking a snapshot of the system if you have the capability. If you don't have the issue w/Chrome, there's no reason to deploy the fix. Also, use at your own risk, yadda yadda.
