Grrr they may call it a stable release but if it doesn't work with any extensions (or at least certainly MOST extensions that I can tell) they should be offering the 68.x installer on the download page for Thunderbird, rather than just the 78.x version. I'm in the process of setting up a new laptop and can't use any of the extensions I use on Thunderbird on my other machines all running 68.x with this new 78.x version. Sadly I didn't keep the installers of 68.x on my previous laptops to be able to install it that way. I don't want to be on a "Test Channel" as they put it. That should be an opt in thing made available along with the version that is still working with all the extensions. Not keen to download an old installer from non-Thunderbird sites - that's always risky.

All the builds are right here:
    https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/

And the extensions that work with version 78 are here:

    Thanks mood :thumb:
I got it indeed offered and I did let it upgrade.
Alas, it completely messed up my rather strange mix (yes, I confess) of email accounts and providers. I have now restored a backup-image.
It's going to cause some real headaches, ough ... Maybe after the weekend I will look at it again, but I'm far from happy with this....

The 68 to 78 update went smooth so far. They just reset the "allow telemetry" setting to on. (Haven't found if they also reset other stuff).

Is there any member of W. who has devoted himself to hardening Thunderbird?

I have changed several values in the email client I use, comparing it to Thunderbird 78.2.2. but I couldn't help but notice that many security and/or privacy features are disabled by default.

Sorry if this isn't the right thread to ask this question.

I just updated from 68 to 78.3.1 on Fedora. I have 4 email accounts in Thunderbird, all from different providers, and everything seems fine after the upgrade.

The old TorBirdy addon had an option to disable HTML view, which improves security a lot(though some emails will not be readable). It was an about:config preference afaik, but I can't find the menu option to open about:config in v78.

I don't know what the default settings are, but I have Remote content disabled, disabled 3rd party cookies and disabled Data collection.
