Try exiting OneDrive then check for updates. If that didn't work, disable OneDrive from automatic startup then reboot and check for updates.

Also ensure all your drivers are up to date especially Wireless/LAN and Video drivers

I uninstalled OneDrive awhile ago as I don't use it and I keep my drivers updated. So there much be something else blocking the update. Thanks for the suggestions.

You can start the installation manually using the manual update tool = https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Download the first file where it says Update Now

There are 0 bugs after the last update KB4571744

I already have the ISO file (and have manually upgraded some other systems), but for once I've decided to wait to upgrade my main system. While most likely 2004 will work fine, I have no issues with 1909 so am in no rush to upgrade. I am just surprised that I get no message about 2004 coming for my system.

I agree. I am surprised that anyone would even recommend such a thing as saving any 2004 builds.

20H2 is a breeze, it's a nice build w/very few issues now (one of which--ESENT id 642-- finally acknowledged now). Is anyone who's running an Insider build considering to switch to the Dev Channel and try 20211? Or better yet: in the Dev Channel already?

    It's tempting. :)

I run the dev channel in a virtual machine at work for software compatibility testing. Today's build is installing right now. Probably another hour before it is ready to go.

Oh, nice! Well, it's at your work so at your convenience, if you could post your impressions, that would be super-helpful.

I didn't like 2004 for the notorious optimizer bug, but on several occasions it also froze the system after opening the start window. I have absolutely no issues with 20H2 except (it always happens after a major upgrade) running SFC (system file checker: sfc scannow) it always finds some corrupt system files which are always duly fixed. I have no idea why this is happening after upgrades.

Funny you mention this, it's also happened here, multiple times. It was worse in v. 2004 as something was corrupting the Photos app like on a weekly basis. Bye, v. 2004. :cautious:

I see on Triple Helix's screenshot the 20211 build. My question would be if there are any strange errors or warnings in Event Viewer. If so, I'm holding back from Dev Channel, depending on what it/they are. If not, I may take the next step after all.

I think there are just issues with the photo app. It was crashing on a brand new laptop for me and when you check the reviews in the Microsoft Store the recent ones are pretty bad.

Edit: I see there is a new version today. Hopefully they fixed it.

    Roger, something interesting here ...

My ThinkPad that I have just retired at least had the 'Win 10 is coming' message, though never updated (possibly due to Conexant driver).
But it's replacement, a new ThinkBook i7 Win 10 Pro 10510 CPU, on setup, only updated to v1909 build 18363.1082.
No message, and nothing further in spite of repeated Check for Updates.
Until I turned off (default) BitLocker encryption (and consequently also Device Encryption).
v2004 was immediately offered (and now updated).

The joke was that even my ancient HP Intel Atom N550, when dusted off, dutifully chugged away and updated to v2004 build 19041.508.

Could this be relevant to you?

Mine took 2 1/2 hours to update from the previous build. I haven't played with it much but I see it is already installing a cumulative update. o_O

Edit: The claimed build number is 10.0.20211.1005 but it has failed to install after 3 tries. Giving up until next week.

@plat1098 I would not install this on a daily driver.

Oh eww--backing off Dev Ring for now, thank you for the warning. Seems a little too risky for a daily driver but that's expected for that Ring, I guess.

Re: Photos app--it was not only crashing more often, there was also this white film over it in Start Menu, where it wouldn't open. That white film to me usually means there is something in the app that wants your reaction, like "do you like this app, blah blah." But it seemed frozen before getting to that point. Hopefully that sounds sane. Repair, reset, sfc /scannow would all temporarily fix it but the corruption always returned.

Photos app hasn't misbehaved since going to 20H2 1 1/2 weeks ago. So that's definitely progress from v.2004.
