Word up. Le review of LibreOffice 7.0, a free, cross-platform, open-source office and productivity suite, covering installation on Windows and Linux, visual and functional changes, usability in Writer, Calc and Impress, overall efficiency, performance, style management, Microsoft Office compatibility, community, future direction, and more. Have fun.

USA still the best. But barely.
Why can't LibreOffice solve Microsoft Office compatibility? This has been THE ISSUE since Open Office & before.

Solving compatibility issues promptly and thoroughly may be easier if the code is open and accessible.

I doubt MS wants it to be compatible with LibO.

It's not about MS being compatible with LO - it's LO being compatible with the office suite used by 90% of all users, and almost 100% of all business users.

The LO developers probably have to reverse engineer any compatibility they do offer. I doubt Microsoft is offering any assistance.

Doesn't MS have a history of trying to knobble other office suites; particularly Open Office? IIRC it was all about incompatibility then, and MS had a deliberate policy to make things difficult for freeware suites.

Well, you can always bank on MS to play fair. Especially with freeware they believe to be some form of competition.

M$ istory goes way back to WordPerfect for DOS. They are not playing fair that long...

I'm not wanting to sound like I'm defending it but I understand why it happens. When was the last time you used WordPerfect? Playing fair won't make you the winner. I'm sure they'd blame it on answering to the shareholders. That said the richest shareholders are the company executives.

Win for Microsoft or any other company not winning in fair play competition is a loss for consumers.

I've gone with WPS Office. No idea about the compatibility with MS Office. It just seems smoother and much faster than LibreOffice. Been using WPS for a while now and don't see myself returning to the LO fold.

That goes without saying. I have doubts that companies like (insert trillion dollar tech giant(s) here) care about that either.
