I've never seen that recommendation. Maybe ShutUp10 is disabling it.

I will also check this out, but don't forget that OSArmor will kill the stupid Software Reporter Tool within a second. :p

I tried OSArmor for a brief period before deciding it caused more problems than it solved.

This is not new - and it requires two regkey changes to disable.

Weird, perhaps it's related to the apps that you're using, I never had a problem with OSArmor, it just sits in the background and I didn't even have to change any of the settings.

I feel eventually the Mozilla foundation is going to have to take drastic measures. Like making their own chromium-based browser

I'm not sure what the point of that would be. I think even I would drop it if they do that.

And others, specifically the common users, the ones that make up for the great majority will pick it up. Look at what happened with Edge.

I disagree. Anybody that wants to use Firefox is doing so. I don't think anyone is using Edge (or even Chrome) and holding out for a Chromium based Firefox.

yeah, agreed. besides, the legacy edge is based on edgehtml which is far inferior to blink. hence the transition.

Legacy Edge felt like an unfinished app from the beginning and at least to me never really felt like it went much beyond that. If they had really wanted it to win they should have given it more priority. It failed as a project.

yeah, that's the right word: unfinished. and i'm glad that it failed. new edge is so much better than its predecessor.

They brought this upon themselves, to me Firefox became unusable when certain extensions were not supported anymore. And they didn't bother to add certain stuff as a standard feature. Also, seems like FF has become more annoying with nagging you about updates and stuff. In my view, Firefox is a mess. But it would still be a bit sad if they also switched to Chromium.

This is not a new thing. This nonsense behavior has always been in Windows 10. Even when you tick always use, it occasionally "asks" about which app to use. My approach is then to punish the naughty behavior and I stop the annoying Windows apps from running via IFEO. I redirect them to nothing. Problem solved.

I guess it's time to file a complained against M$, like Netscape once did.

I'm actually surprised that the big name AV companies still haven't done this, it's clear that Windows Defender was designed not only to protect home users, but also to entice companies to buy Windows Defender ATP, so that M$ could get a foothold in the billion dollar IT security sector.

And now they clearly want to get a bigger market share in the browser market, which is still ruled by crappy Chrome. I do believe that Edge is a better browser compared to Chrome, but it's crap if compared to Vivaldi.

And why many including yours truly shall continue local workstations strictly Windows 8.1- Oh don't think that Micro servers haven't still try sneaking in their snoopy sorcery trickery garbage but on 8 they are drastically limited in comparison to Windows 10. Maybe 7 too but I have zilch experience with that version. 8 is bread and butter on this end.

Linux is still waiting in the wings as an able alternative for future computing services.

Makes you wonder if it isn't in their best interest to make Windows less secure so they can sell the solution. :isay:
