Because it's perfect as is, is doesn't need updates for the sake of updates... much liked defraggers, and the like, what they do is decade old tech that hasn't changed since the Windows XP era.

Not correct, I've just installed UltraSearch inside the sandbox, and it can find all files. Without having to index the drive. BTW, not directed to you but earlier in the thread I made a mistake, WizTree is a tool that is not developed by JAM Software. And I didn't even know about WizFile, will check this one out too.

Is Everything installed inside or out of the sandbox? I used to prefer UltraSearch before I stopped trying to use portable versions of everything program. I don't really know about it nowadays, but I've come to like Everything's indexing (speed), especially when you have a lot of files.

    Not in this box
    - I use both Wizfile & Everything.
    - WizFile has some features that are not in Everything and Everything can do some things WizFile can't do.

It's installed inside the sandbox and can't find any files. I might be doing something wrong, but I doubt it. UltraSearch doesn't have to index anything and works both inside and outside the sandbox. I'm actually using an old version of UltraSearch because it works just fine.

This is inferior to wizfile, at least last time I tested it, wizfile used basically no resources

I disagree, not for the sake of being disagreeable, but because Everything has been around a lot longer and is a more mature product. If the complaint is that Everything uses 80 MB of RAM then that may be an issue for some but it is less than 1% of the 32 GB I have installed. Use what you like obviously but I find Everything to be my go to search. WizTree on the other hand, is a very excellent and free utility that I like very much.

@xxJackxx Ok so here are my tests, assuming of course you don't let the application run in the background and only start it when you need it (no indexing in the background **** that uses unnecessary resources)

    Images - https://imgur.com/a/KSOBNib

When started, wizfile takes 17 seconds of cpu time (about 3-4 seconds real time) to scan the entire C disk, once scanned, it uses very little memory while idling (less than 10K), and very little I/O activity. It starts with 1751 I/O read, 2 I/O write, and about 850 I/O other when started and finishes scanning, but I/O other passively increases while doing stuff, likely cuz of the monitor files and folders options. With each search, cpu time increases by a few seconds or so, and the memory used jumps to over 100K while sitting on a search result, additionally with each search I/O other increases by around 100, I/O read and write never change. However, as I'm doing stuff, for example launch WoW, active memory increased to 20K+ (not that it matters since u wont use it in the background, that's just dumb).

    In short:

    - Scans entire disk at startup of program, does not store database of disks seemingly (can always use Process Monitor to check)
    - Starting values for me: 17 seconds of cpu time, 1751 I/O read, 2 I/O write, ~850 I/O other, less than 10K active memory
    - When searching, memory jumps to over 100K, cpu time increases by a few seconds with each search (I imagine it depends on the search too of course, I do simple searches), I/O other also rises by about a 100-200 for my simple search

Only asks for internet connection when clicking check for update

    Everything:

    - Saves a database, no need to scan on each startup, only for recent changes since the last open of the program
    - The initial scan of my C disk takes 10-11 seconds of cpu time, much faster than the 17 of wizfile, realtime is about the same, maybe slightly faster (no I did not use a stopwatch)
    - Active memory with my settings is 118K combining both processes, but does not rise like wizfile when **** happens
    - After the initial scan, reopening Everything no changes to my disk takes 1 second of cpu time, and opens with 906 I/O read, 0 I/O write, about 2500 I/O other that passively increased by 3-4 every second or so, when I launch wow it jumped from 2575 to 2835. That said, I'm not planning to use any of these in the background (why would I), so that doesnt really matter
    - Searches use a few seconds of cpu time just like wiz file, maaaybe slightly less, hard to say, I aint doin a pro test here

Only asks for internet connection when clicking check for update

That said, everything has a loooooooooooooot more options than wizfile, and saves changes to a database so technically faster after the first scan. Memory is about the same. I/O other rises a looooot more in everything when searching than in wizfile. A simple search rose the I/O other of everything by 3K, while in wizfile same search only rose it by about 50. This could quickly scale for large hdds and servers etc.

Also, wizfile does not support regex, but everything does, so thats a huge plus for me, I loev regex. Also in everything, you can customize your filters waaaaay more than in wizfile.

Overall, I think everything wins in almost every single aspect other than I/O other used for searching

Both programs only ask for connection when clicking check for updates or connecting somewhere. Have you inspected the content of the connection? How do you know they are transmitting your data or something like that?
