No one will agree with that statement more than myself where speed + stability is Everything!

On my computer, adding drives works perfectly, as described.

Is your external SSD NTFS formatted? Differently formatted drives cannot be searched with UltraSearch's current version (the upcoming 3.x will support other file systems, though).

Ew. exFAT wastes a lot of space and is slow. I would only keep it for compatibility with other OSes, if needed. But that's my opinion, and it ain't worth much. :D

Workaround for exFAT (and other non-NTFS) volumes:

    Folder Indexing
Everything: Tools - Options - Folders

I never knew exFAT was slower than NTFS. I have a portable T5 Samsung SSD which I use it to backup all my data with SyncBack, it takes a few seconds to only sync the changes.

Might wanna have a look at this if you aren't already using SyncBack:
The best and fastest way to backup your data!

Wait a minute, so you're saying that it needs to perform indexing? I think that's probably the reason why I switched to UltaSearch, because it searches the disk by directly reading the MFT, so there's nothing to index. Same goes for their excellent WizTree tool.

That's weird, I'm using an older version and search is blazingly fast.

oh it is fast, night and day faster than Windows search. I mean this is not a show stopper but Everything finds the results with 0 second lag even as you are typing, this one has like a 1 second lag. Not the end of the world and I would've used it if it wasn't for the other reasons I mentioned like the ad under Advanced Search and not supporting my external SSD in exFAT.

exFAT is noticeably much slower with large files. It is also not journaled so data loss is more likely in some circumstances.

Edit: There are also no file permissions on exFAT so you can't make files read only for individual accounts.

Yes, if you use Everything all of the time and let the service run it does index.

The main reason I am using exFAT is for permissions. I don't want my files to hav any permissions so when I am on another computer they won't appear like they are for some random string unknown user so I wouldn't have to take ownership of every folder.

Good point, there are legitimate reasons to want a permissionless file system. No NTFS ADS or the like.

Regarding file permissions: I read on Wikipedia:
So exFAT supports file permissions, but not on all operating systems?

(I had to deal with exFAT years ago when I could only read the exFAT formatted memory card of a Sony video camera with a Windows XP PC after installing a Windows update).

I have just tried Everything 1.4.1.986 (portable version):

Am I missing the option to show grid lines?

As a long-time UltraSearch user, I can now confirm @Spartan's experience that Everything reacts completely instantaneously to the input of search terms, at least on my computer, while UltraSearch has a minimal delay when I start typing a search term (searched drive = external hard drive, NTFS, USB 3.0)

You're welcome :) My desktop (Lenovo Legion T730-28ICO) is not quite as fast, but it's not a slow computer either.

Regarding the advertisement in the UltraSearch menu, I would like to mention that TreeSize is a software by the same developer, which is available as free and paid version.

Unfortunately exFAT is treated differently by different OSes. We found out the hard way that cluster sizes that work on Windows leave the disk unreadable on Mac OS. We had to reformat the drive and copy the files again.

What is the Enterprise version of Everything?

Seems odd that the Enterprise version is reduced features. As I am not using any of those features I'm testing it out. So far there is nothing missing that I care about.

If anything, I'd like *less* features so the Enterprise version seems better to me. All I want is a fast local file scanner.

The Enterprise version does not contain the stuff I don't need anyway. All I need is a fast, reliable scanner for local files.

I agree that I prefer less features. You'd think the original would be the Enterprise version and less features would be "lite" or "gamers edition" or something that implies it is lighter-faster-less features or something of that like. I'm not complaining in the least. If I were not familiar with the program and it was my first time on that site I would assume the Enterprise to be the most bloated version. He can call it what he wants, I'd just be concerned with people's initial confusion. I guess too many words to make a point that doesn't matter much, but that's what I do. :D
