    In the past, uBlock Origin was known to be lower on resources and much faster in loading pages than AdBlock Plus. Is this till the case?

    i check my lists from time to time, remove those with less entries if needed. lately i removed two where Zero usage in chromium, but full usage i firefox o_O

    ABP has also improved no matter. FTW i would prefer ublock. anyhow i noticed some more background action for ublock since the upgrade with the new ui, i dont know why. in special i noticed it on android where ublock delay the page load for a lot of seconds.

    so i reduced the lists and entries in ublock to those i actually need and that made some seconds, but not all. and it do not matter if at home with wlan or mobile, with or without antivirus or adguard. complete independant of anything else, only ublock disabled makes a significant value. but its only once - on startup, not later.

    For now you can still have the old UI by setting `uiFlavor` to `classic` in Advanced Settings. :)

    this is what i have set for desktop, but for android i prefer the new ui.
    bad formulation from me - it happened similar that time, could also caused by firefox update that time. firefox loads the first page after siginficant shorter delay without uBo activated and i noticed this change in the past 2 or 3 month.

    is there a special difference between usage of uBo on desktop and android?

    Hi,

    I need a little help because I'm desperately trying to block the animated banner of: https://old.reddit.com/r/Windscribe/new/ which makes my cpu go up to 50% for nothing.
    I can't find the object that creates this snowflake animation, neither with uBO, nor with dev tools.
    I'd like to block it with uBO of course.

    Edit: There's still something weird on this old reddit, even going to the dark theme of the page, https://nm.reddit.com/r/Windscibe/new/ , the animation is gone but my cpu is still at 50%.

    Thanks for your help.

    I'm using only uBO and Cookie Autodelete.

    I tried the Adblock Tester page and without using the RU list and like the others got 81 or better using the ff:

    Adguard Base
    Easylist
    Easyprivacy

    But cookie notification windows appeared in some sites. They disappeared when I activated Adguard Annoyances.

    Finally, one site (yifysubtitles) showed large banner ads which disappeared only when I activated uBlock Filters--privacy.

    With the two additional lists, though, the score went down to 79.

    thats not animated, those are "flairs"

    try in stylus (extension)
    Code:
    #header
    {
        height: 200px !important;
        background: #000000 url(//b.thumbs.redditmedia.com/mcU-TM6lNDEFlqCk5_5VU8GZ2dBgEFLoE93J-NMt5aY.png) !important;
        background-repeat: no-repeat !important;
        background-position: 50% !important;
    }

    Thank you Brummelchen :thumb:

    Apparently I was wrong, it is not the animation that causes the rise of my cpu, more precisely the gpu process. With stylus, the animation disappears well but my cpu/gpu is still at 50%. It must be something else that creates this, even with all scripts blocked with uBO, it continues. :mad:

    Same behavior with Vivaldi Stable & Firefox Nightly.

    As a quick test, turn on the blocking of large media elements on that site, reload the page, and see if this makes a difference.

    Thank you, Gorhill.

    I've just tried but unfortunately I don't see any change. This is the only old.reddit that puts my cpu at 50% and I can't figure out why.

    Do i really need both AdGuard Tracking Protection and EasyPrivacy.
    Title: AdGuard Tracking Protection filter Description: The most comprehensive list of various online counters and web analytics tools. Use this filter if you do not want your actions on the Internet to be tracked. That sounds like it should be the only filter anyone would need.

    Same here.
    CPU went from 5% to 20% (4 cores).
    Blocking of large media elements or applying the style mentioned above had no effect.
    Perhaps they are mining bitcoins? ;)

    AdGuard Tracking Protection without EasyPrivacy: 8872 of 8973 used in AdGuard Tracking Protection.
    AdGuard Tracking Protection + EasyPrivacy: 5160 of 8973 used in AdGuard Tracking Protection.

    screenshot-Adguard.png

    So AdGuard Tracking Protection still blocks a lot more.
    You can use them both if you wish.:)

    This is interesting! Yes, on here, cpu and gpu fluctuate from 9-14%, which is significantly more than the normal. Zapper doesn't work from the get-go. I seriously wonder what's embedded in that snow animation at the top. :cautious:

    Interesting indeed, it had seemed to me that only the old.reddit did it but after checking, the www .reddit of windscribe does it too and I had completely forgotten about bitcoin mining. Maybe that's what it is.
    I don't know what they're doing at /r/windscribe.

    ah,. i see, cpu here also. try
    Code:
    ||b.thumbs.redditmedia.com^$image,domain=old.reddit.com,important
    ofc this would block some more images as expected, but for now looks ok.

    or you block the whole css file with that snow definition, could cause issues
    Code:
    ||b.thumbs.redditmedia.com/QBEaHDqRNSJ1gbA0-X1pmb6rlVcRqdmeJ2kCyDIQKto.css$stylesheet,domain=old.reddit.com,important

    When I tested for a good ten minutes with the banner active, my CPU hovers steadily at about 23%, no spiking. When I block redditmedia.com to eliminate the banner, the CPU drops to 3-5%, no spiking. My laptop is a core i5, Lenovo.

    Is this right for ublockO v1.28.0, in Microsoft Edge, Version 83.0.478.61 (Official build) (64-bit)? I have only two options in both the Global and Site-specific columns of uBlockO: Noop or Block, but not Allow. In this example, IMDB.com is broken, unless I turn off the power button. Can someone clarify? Thanks!

    EDIT:

    okay, so I had the version from Microsoft Edge add-ons store, by Nick Rolls. I removed it and installed the version from the incomparable Raymond Hill and that version works as expected. I should have known better ;)

    Also, Easylist Cookie to block cookie notifications if AdGuard Annoyances doesn't work.

    So far, I've the ff. activated:

    uBO filters - privacy - large banners in one site
    AdGuard Base
    EasyList
    EasyPrivacy
    AdGuard Annoyances - cookie notifications in some sites
    EasyList Cookie - cookie notifications in other sites
