Used SD many years ago. Looking for a different solution to achieve the same result?

    Krabbah you are welcome, and I'm pretty sure you will appreciate SD.

    Thank you for your response. Odd. I have not seen that setting! It's probably been 6 month's or more since I tried to use Sandboxie. At that time, I did a lot of searching for a solution. Many sites discussed Eset's HIPS settings. Others mentioned registry edits. None, however, that I recall, mentioned this setting in Sandboxie?!

    At this point, my Eset license expires next month and I've already purchased a Norton 360 license to replace it with. The reason was specifically so that I could start using Sandboxie again. I only wish I had known about that setting months ago.

    @Alexhousek,

    usually Sandboxie checks at each startup if there is software installed on the computer that requires certain configuration adjustments to improve compatibility with these applications.

    Maybe you accidentally turned off this automatic check? You can find the setting for it in the Sandboxie menu:

    Configure > Software Compatibility ----> "In the future, don't check software compatibility"

    Hi there, there is no need to apologize about anything, we are here to exchange opinions and solutions to problems about software. You know it is odd, I often wonder why isn't everyone using Shadow Defender or an alternative like Deep Freeze? I guess it has to do with one's approach to security. As far as I'm concerned SD allows maximum security to the operating system without the need of any other program, but it does not protect your data from being stolen, therefore one needs to have a good antivirus for this purpose.

    I'm a fanatic of backups/restores which is the best way to return a system to its original state for whatever reason (malware, conflicts, configuration blunders etc). Now Macrium makes a backup/restore in about 60 seconds (backup) + 130 seconds (restore) adding delays setting up the processes, we are talking about at least 5 minutes for a backup/restore operation. The same operation with SD, returning the system to its original state can be done in 20-30 seconds! Now that's fast.

    IMO SD and Eset are enough for just about any contingency. Try SD for a couple of weeks and see how you feel about it, keep in mind that any change (good or bad) won't be retained when rebooting your computer, therefore you have to get into the habit of saving files and folders that are important to you...

    Changed can be kept either by adding an exclusion or by the context menu.

    Obviously that goes without saying if you know how to use SD, alternatively one could have an USB flash drive connected and not shadowed to transfer any important files to retain. Context menu is my favorite way to keep a file or folder, but a USB flash drive offers an added backup possibility just in case.

    Thanks for all the responses everyone. I learned a lot from reading. So it it pretty much looks like SD is an unique piece of software really. Thanks for the recommendation for DeepFreeze. I have decided to go back to SD again because of usability and reliability. It was cool to read how SD was the only one able to pass the dax123 test from 10 years ago.
