What's the advantage of a registry scanner? Isn't it better if it finds malware to just delete the known keys?

Can someone take a moment and show me where reg scanning is accessed in set-up? I have searched and not found. Currently running v 13.1.21.0. TY!

It's not available as an option until you update to 13.2.15.0

Thank you, stackz. Reg scan sounds like a good feature to have, but not if it is enabled by default. Is it set to scan registry by default in 13.2.15.0?

Edit In: I have upgraded to 13.2.15.0 and see that the registry scan is not enabled by default. :)

Where is that registry scan option in settings I'm not able to find it.

Also, what is the difference between Potentially unwanted applications and potentially unsafe applications? I noticed that potentially unsafe application scanning is turned off by default? What do you think of that and do you recommend turning on that option?

i recommend you keep it off unless you want to have higher fp's. it's just a marketing gimmick.

Right, but that's for Potentially unwanted applications and I didn't get any FPs with tht but there is potentially unsafe applications, that's what I'm confused about

Without a long discussion of the differences which are adequately explained in Eset on-line in-product help feature, here's one main difference. If you use a license cracker such as KMS, Eset will flag it with Potentially unsafe applications enabled.

The most troublesome setting for some Eset users is the Potentially unwanted applications setting. Eset for example, flags uTorrent as such.

i see no reason to enable it. it will increase the chance of fp's.

My advice for maximum security protection is you enable both Eset PUA settings. If Eset detects something you must have and feel safe using or chose to ignore the risks of using, you can create a real-time scanning performance exclusion for whatever components Eset flagged. Then remove those components from Quarantine.

    Thanks, yep.
I did my usual on-demand scan (I do that very often), this time without those two new scan options enabled. It was back to normal times; about 9 minutes.
I think that I will now and then enable them.
    Thanks.

I agree. Scanning registry and WMI once in a while makes sense. :thumb:

I don't run manual scans too often myself. It doesn't seem likely to me that if a product missed something in the first place that it will catch it with a manual scan afterwards.

Yup that is my train of thought. I have not run manual scans in years, unless it was for virus remediation.
