Budget devices have managed to hold firm in some markets, however, as consumers turn away from $1,000 devices.

As other manufacturers have turned toward cheaper flagship alternatives, Motorola has experimented with $1,000 Edge+ and the foldable Razr reboot. Neither product was particularly well received. The Razr, in particular got knocked by reviews for its pricing and build quality. Thankfully, however, the Lenovo-owned company knows that budget handsets are its core value proposition.

The latest version of the G line gets its name from its purported “AI processing capabilities that boost performance to the next level.” I guess we’ll have to take Motorola’s word until we see one in person. Certainly the Snapdragon 665 alone isn’t enough to warrant the name, nor is the 3GB of RAM. Not terrible for a budget handset, but not exactly the thing that lends itself to the “Fast” moniker.

The handset also sports a dedicate macro camera and a 16MP camera that should taken a decent low light shot. Also of note is the beefy 4,000mAh battery.

The $159 Moto E goes on sale at the same time frame. Unsurprisingly, there doesn’t seem to be a ton to write home about in with the extremely affordable device. It’s got two cameras, a 6.2-inch HD+ display, 3,500mAh battery and a Snapdragon 632.

Of all the Android manufacturers out there, the one that I find the most interesting to watch is Motorola. This is a company that's gone through a lot of change over the years, starting its Android journey with the whole DROID phase in the 2000s, then its operation under Google ownership, and now being managed by Lenovo since 2014.

Having lots of choices is never a bad thing, but the way Motorola is going about things is both confusing and ultimately damning to its customers.
On the note of confusion, Motorola currently has six distinct families of Android phones for the United States — Moto E, Moto G, Moto Z, Motorola One, Edge, and RAZR.

Each of those families is supposed to be representative of a distinct type of device, but the lines separating them continue to get blurrier and blurrier.

This past Friday, however, Motorola threw more phones at us with the Moto G Fast and the new Moto E.

And on the subject of price, the introduction of the Moto G Fast and Moto E now means that Motorola has phones that cost $150, $200, $250, and $300. Competition is one thing, but over-releasing phones that don't seamlessly coexist with each other is something else entirely.
All of this goes without even mentioning the five other Moto G8 phones that are sold in markets outside of North America, further muddying Motorola's portfolio, branding, and ability to properly support its customers.

Motorola One Fusion Plus goes official w/ pop-up camera, 5,000mAh battery, €299 price tag

Motorola has officially announced the One Fusion Plus, an affordable Android smartphone that comes with some notable surprises for just €299.

The 6.5-inch device follows the Motorola One Hyper — which was released late last year — coming with a pop-up selfie camera.
That isn’t the only star attraction, as the Motorola One Fusion Plus also comes with an FHD+ display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 chipset, 6GB of RAM, and a whopping 5,000mAh battery that can be topped up at up to 15W speeds. It will come with Android 1- preinstalled, which is sort of a precursor at this stage of 2020.

The Motorola One Fusion Plus will retail for just €299 or around $340 in select European markets. However, it’s not clear if it will be made available globally in the coming months. It will also be available in two colors: white and blue.

Motorola have really kicked into gear with affordable smartphones in recent months, so the One Fusion Plus adds to a growing list of good-value devices. With specifications to rival the Pixel 4a, it might prove an interesting smartphone for European markets at least for now.

Motorola has officially unveiled the One Fusion, another affordable smartphone that will unfortunately only be available in select regions.

This should be confused with the Motorola One Fusion Plus, which was unveiled last month in selected regions. No, this is a completely distinct, brand new device that comes with some notable hardware changes.
Firstly, the Motorola One Fusion will measure in at 6.5-inches and will sport an HD+ LCD display with a 1600 by 720-pixel resolution. Unlike the Plus variant, the standard One Fusion will also come with a dewdrop display notch for the front-facing camera — no pop-up selfie camera here.

Inside, the chipset takes a slight step down to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 over the 730 found in the Plus model.

This latest affordable Motorola-branded Android phone will ship with Android 10 out of the box and is available from today across Latin America. It will head to certain Middle Eastern countries in the coming weeks

Motorola will soon meet the fate of HTC if it does not immediately streamline it's lineup. They need only 3 series: Z, One and RAZR.

The Edge is probably a one-hit wonder, it will probably be integrated into the other lineups in a couple of years.

Motorola announced today that it’s bringing the previously international-only One Fusion Plus to the US, where the pop-up camera smartphone will cost $399 starting on August 5th.

The US version of the One Fusion Plus is identical to the international model. It features a 6.5-inch FHD+ display with a pop-up 16-megapixel camera, along with four additional sensors on the back of the device: a main 64-megapixel sensor, a wide-angle 8-megapixel camera, a 5-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth camera.

Motorola has also announced a cheaper, less powerful version of the One Fusion Plus, the Motorola One Fusion, which ditches the pop-up camera for a teardrop-style notch, drops the processor down to a Snapdragon 710, and has a lower-quality 48-megapixel main camera.

Motorola’s latest leak shows how its budget smartphones are offering pretty decent value. The entry-level Moto G9 Plus (appearing in an Orange Slovakia listing, via Roland Quandt) has four rear cameras including a 64-megapixel main camera, along with a huge 5,000 mAh battery — all for €255, or about $300.

It also comes with a 6.81-inch 1080p display, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage and Android 10. On the front left corner, there’s a hole-punch selfie camera, though no mention of its resolution.
The G9 Plus would be Motorola’s third G9 phone following the $170 G9 Play and very similar G9.

That model, along with the G9 Plus, shows that the company is doing strong work in the low- to mid-range category — even if its high-end phones like the Edge Plus aren’t setting the world on fire.

Samsung isn’t the only company unveiling new devices earlier than usual this year — just ahead of CES 2021, Motorola has pulled back the curtain on its latest batch of smartphones. There are no flagship models in sight for now, but as usual, Motorola has a bevy of new options for smartphone shoppers on a budget.

The most interesting by far is the oddly named, $400 Motorola One 5G Ace (above), thanks in large part to the chipset it uses. Inside the phone’s fairly chunky body is one of Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 750Gs with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage — that’s enough to make the One 5G Ace the most powerful new device in Motorola’s lineup by far.

Then there’s the $300 Moto G Stylus, which packs a slightly larger, 6.8-inch Full HD+ screen, giving the phone’s namesake capacitive stylus just a little more room for doodling and note-taking.
Rounding out Motorola’s line is the $170 Moto G Play, which returns to firm up Motorola’s presence in the budget smartphone arena.

Last year, Motorola returned to the high-end phone market with the Edge Plus, a device that was a mostly middling affair. It later followed it up with the more affordable and compelling Edge. The company's newest phone, announced today, falls somewhere in between those two devices.

It’s not quite a flagship, but nor is it entirely a mid-range device either. Internally, the 2021 Edge features up to 8GB of RAM, up to 256GB of internal storage and a Snapdragon 778G processor.
That’s a step down from the Snapdragon 865 Motorola included with the Edge Plus, but what the 2021 Edge has going for it over its predecessors is a 6.8-inch display with a 144Hz refresh rate panel.

Motorola also reworked the camera module on the 2021 Edge. The phone now features a primary 108-megapixel sensor that uses pixel-binning technology to improve performance in low-light situations.

What you won’t find on the 2021 Edge is support for wireless charging or robust waterproofing. It’s only IP52-certified. Most high-end phones these days feature either IP67 or IP68 water resistance.

Motorola is expanding the Moto G lineup with another budget-friendly device. The $160 Moto G Pure runs on the MediaTek Helio G25 octa-core processor, rather than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 seen in the slightly more expensive Moto G Play.

The G Pure has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage (expandable by up to 512GB via microSD). The IPS TFT LCD 6.5-inch screen only has a 720p resolution, which might be helping Motorola keep costs down.

Motorola says you'll get up to two days of use with the 4000mAh battery. It's promising rapid charging through the USB Type-C port. The handset is water repellent, with an IP52 rating, meaning it should be able to withstand spills, splashes and light rain.
There are also fingerprint and face unlock sensors, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack.

There's no NFC or 5G support, unfortunately.

Motorola released its ultra-affordable Moto G Power earlier this year, but today the company just announced yet another affordable Moto G Power. You may be wondering: Why? Well, there are a couple differences.

The new $200 Moto G Power has the same starting price and big 5,000 mAh battery as the previous model, with the new model getting a slightly smaller 6.5-inch 720p display (down from 6.6 inches) with a slightly faster 90Hz refresh rate. And just like the previous model, the new Moto G Power is still running Android 11, with Motorola committing to just one additional year of OS updates (though you get two years of security patches).

Instead of a Qualcomm 662 chip, the new G Power features a MediaTek Helio G37 processor, with the standard G Power getting slightly more base RAM (4GB) and storage (64GB), which is nice considering you previously had to pay $50 extra to get the same level of memory and storage on the older G Power.

Thankfully, Moto has left the G Power’s ports alone. The new model still features a dedicated headphone jack, a USB-C port for power and data, and microSD card expandability.
