t, you should give ubo a try. you can create multiple profiles since you're using the portable version. create one profile with abp, ns and httpse and another profile with ubo, so you can compare them in real time. imo, ubo in medium mode is the most essential extension.

A few weeks ago because of issues I started experiencing with Firefox stable releases, I switched to ESR when after testing, I discovered that I could not reproduce the issues using ESR. The issues are minor, but it is annoying to know that something is not working right.

Yesterday when I saw in this thread the announcement of the release of ESR 78.0.1, I tested this version in a sandbox, and found that with this new channel of ESR, I would be back to the same as having stable Firefox. In other words, when I update to ESR 78.0.1, I will get the issues that made me leave the stable channel.

This are the 2 issues:

1. The first one has to do with Search and your Home page.

This is the way I like my Home page.



I get rid of everything but the Search bar. When I open a New tab, this is what I also like to get. But now, I get a Blank page and nothing but a blank page. Regardless of how I set Home in Firefox Options, I always get the blank page.

2. I cant open NoScript Options from the NoScript Menu. As simple as that. I can still open NoScript Options from Firefox Tools>Addons>Extensions>NoScript but not from the NS Menu. Weeks ago, I reported this issue at the NoScript Forum, and no one reported experiencing same issue.

I experience the issues in 2 computers with different systems (W10 and W7), the issues take place with or without Sandoxie. When I started experiencing this problems about 6 weeks ago, I created new Firefox profiles, and even clean installed Firefox in both computers, and still had same problems. The only thing that I could do at that time to get rid of the issues was to install ESR. But now, the new ESR channel is gonna give me the issues.

Any ideas?

With the Portable by PortableApps.com version, changing DisableSplashScreen to =true in
\Other\Source\FirefoxPortable.ini no longer works for me.

The splash screen still displays.

 

did you put a copy of that ini file into your profile folder?

I installed NoScript in Firefox 78.01 and the Options on the NoScript menu open o.k. here in Sandboxie 5.33.6. I also have ublock0 installed and both seem to work well together. Win. 10 2004.

 

Hi Wolfrun. Thanks for replying. As far as I know, only myself is affected with the issues I described. What makes it hard to figure out what might be causing the issues is that my systems are very simple. I install basically nothing but getting the issues in my 2 computers with different systems, it sort of tells the issues are probably caused by something I do in both computers that's in common. Before moving to ESR, when I clean installed Firefox the only thing I didnt change to default before testing was Multiprocess, I left it disabled. But I doubt having MP disabled would cause the issues.

Bo, I disabled multiprocess and the same thing happens here, "Variable name: MOZ_FORCE_DISABLE_E10S Variable value: 1" and I couldn't access NoScript options via the menu bar. Enabled multiprocess and options via menu bar works. So I would say the multiprocess disabled is the cause on my end anyway.

Thanks for testing Wolf. After reading your post, I enabled Multiprocess, and tested ESR 78.0.1 by installing it in a sandbox, and couldn't get things to work right. In other words, I still dont get Options to open via NS Menu. But I take your word and your result as a sign that Mozilla is continuing to make things difficult for us users who disable MP, disable automatic updates, use the 32 version of Firefox instead of the 64 bits version, etc.

How about the Home page, does it look blank, completely blank when you disable MP? If your answer is yes, then it means this issue is also a result from disabling MP. As I see it, I ll be able to confirm what you saw when I update for real to 78.0.1 (which is not happening soon), or to a newer version than that.

According to the ..\FirefoxPortable\Other\Source\Readme.txt the FirefoxPortable.ini must be placed in the same directory as the FirefoxPortable.exe.

If I do so,
