Are they ever going to make it available on a wider scale for average end users (forget terminology) of windows? From what I understand its mainly for enterprise and power users right now. edit: Woops... I think I should have asked that in the other defender thread
The product for average end users is the free, native and installed by default Microsoft Defender, the ATP product is other kind of tool and it is for enterprise usage.
My question referred to advanced threat protection... Im aware that all Windows users get Windows Defender free.
Advanced Threat Protection is only for enterprise usage, the product for average home users is the free Microsoft Defender. There is no reason to have that kind of tool for the latter public and thats why Microsoft doesnt provide it, simple as that. The average home user doesnt have the skill to use this kind of tool and there is no value for them to use it anyway.
There are all kinds of tools MS makes available that the average user doesnt have the skill to use so I dont see that as a valid reason on its own. Admittedly, I dont understand the details of all that ATP adds for security, and I know that there are some elements of it baked into WD already. ANYway...
No offense, but you clearly dont understand what is ATP is all about, it isnt just about more advanced protection methods or ASR rules, those are already implemented in Microsoft Defender and can be turned on with software like ConfigureDefender, what is the differencial of ATP and what makes it useless for average home users is awareness, data breach mitigation, Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), attack simulations and much more. What is the average home user going to do with that? I think you are confusing the more robust protection mechanisms of ATP (that can be used in Microsoft Defender for home user) with the ATP itself. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...microsoft-defender-advanced-threat-protection
For example, it can now also protect Android devices, of course this is once again related to securing corporate networks. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com...crosoft-defender-atp-for-android/ba-p/1480787
