Sandboxie Technologies (SBIE Open source) (VERSION 5.33.6 ONLY!)

Hi, 1st time poster. Where can i download Sandboxie setup files to install to Win 10. I have version 5.33.2 64 bit at present and would like to make sure i am running the latest version.
Also i see there is a Plus (forked version) , should we use this new one .
Please advise. tks

 

thanks. this is the version i have installed at present but saw a post that mentioned 5.40. will there be a dedicated place to look for updated version etc

The branch of this thread will make a version jump to 6.xx.x once driver signing is up and running.

 

Hi DavidXanatos. thanks for replying. Would i need to uninstall previous version to install your version. What's new / updated
and what can we look forward too for the future.

Just saying Hello and I'm very glad to have found my way here, even if a bit late.
I was registered on the old Sandboxie forums as well as the (short-lived) Sophos version.

 

Also a bit late to the party with this Sandboxie thread. Still haven't mastered discovering new threads of interest in Wilders.

Three Sandboxie threads now, two active forks (?), but I'll be following mainly this fork / thread.

 

To my mind this is a good solution, because dealing with all developments of the two forks within one thread would lead to confusion.

Perhaps more distinct names of the threads could be useful. Names that would contain something like: "Sandboxie Fork 1 (by Tom)" and "Sandboxie Fork 2 (Sandboxie Plus by DavidXanatos)".

Especially the thread concerning Tom's fork at the moment is a little bit difficult to identify.

 

Hi Peter, this thread has the proper name. Sandboxie Technologies is the name of the company that is going to be associated with the Cert, because of that, that name should be in the thread title.

Once v6 is up and running will the v5 fork cease, or will they continue to run parallel?

 

When the cooperation works well my Plus branch will use the signed v6 binaries as base and I will release only the Sandboxie-Plus packages with extra features and the new SandMan UI (replacing SbieCtrl) that would be out of the scope of the conservative branch.
I think that's the most reasonable approach with regard to user satisfaction and avoidance of confusion.

 

You already patched a security issue, the problem with injection mechanism, NtQueryInformationProcess bug, ...

All those fixes are included in the driver so Tom must include them in his driver or they are separated from driver?

 

Some are Driver, some are SbieDll, so yes I expect if the collaboration works well, most, if not all, my work on the original components (Driver, Service, Injection dll) to swiftly find its way into the v6.x code base.

Most definitely. I always deleted contents after testing something. The error would never let me move forward though. Installs would fail and not continue, or barely begin. So was not something I was able to ignore.

Recently I had to format my PC, since my original post here, so it is completely freshly cleaned and loaded. Figured since I had to do that, I give Sandboxie another go. I put on Sandboxie 5.33.6 again as that is the latest copy I know of and as of now nothing from it installs because it can not write to my system temp file.

Setup was unable to create the directory
c:\temp\blablablas.....
Error 5: Access is denied.

I can install other programs outside of Sandboxie, but not in it.

Maybe I should make a new post because this thread seems to now have several things going on.

 

I am very relieved that Sandboxie is now being developed further after all, and I would like to thank everyone who makes this possible.

At the moment I have Sandboxie 5.33.6 (64-bit) installed on Windows 10 2004.

While I was able to use Opera 68.0.3618.173 (64-bit, portable installation) with this Sandboxie version without any problems, I only get a white, empty window when I start Opera 69.0.3686.36 sandboxed.

Is this the right thread for such problems?

During the installation you can choose to install Opera for all users, only the current user or as a portable version.

I have installed both versions outside the sandbox; the latest version, which fixes security holes, shows sandboxed the described error.

The "Stand-alone installation (USB)" option is the portable version. You have already selected the correct line.

and with stand alone installed C:\Opera with run Opera folder sandbox'd + call launcher.exe or opera.exe.

I get blank sandbox'd screen.
Sorry, I'm not familiar with Opera stand alone.
As I recall when I ran Opera for all users installed C:\Program Files\Opera. Opera.exe ran okay sandbox'd.

 

You are doing everything right, it is me who described the situation imprecisely, because English is not my mother tongue, I apologize for that.

If I understand you correctly, you installed Opera stand-alone on your real system; when you started Opera in your sandbox, you only saw a blank screen instead of the Opera program window. So you have reproduced exactly the problem I wanted to describe in my first post. And the message "Opera failed to install" is presented to me when I try to install Opera in my default sandbox instead of on my real system.

So the latest Opera version 69.0.3686.36 (at least its "stand-alone" installation) does not seem to be compatible with sandboxie 5.33.6

Don't know if it's related but I had problems with Opera (extremely slow to open for one thing) already in the Insider builds leading up to the release of Windows 2004. At first I was concerned that Sandboxie wouldn't work properly in Windows 2004. Good thing that's not the case as SBIE works very well in 2004, but with Vivaldi instead. Removed Opera and haven't had any real issues since. It's a nice browser but sometimes these things don't work out.

 

Yes, Opera 69 stand alone installed & ran as expected on my real system after I was unable to get Opera 69 stand alone to install nor run sandbox'd.
Since, I had not run Opera 68. I was unknowing by comparison to 68 whether my 69 testing was okay.
