Actually with Win10 1909 I used to have a base Macrium image with all programs of 19 GB. With 2004 I'm down to 16.5 GB...

I don't know about Windows 1909 upgrade backup files since I did not upgrade from 1903. If you already removed them using Disk Cleanup they won't appear in Storage option. Only if there are any files to be deleted an option is shown, otherwise it's hidden.

    OK, that could be it.

But my 'Temporary Files' as shown in that article also looks different, doesn't contain those categories, so those may be changes in 2004.

I must say I've always been a bit confused about Storage Sense, and have asked about it on Wilders before.

I get the impression I do not see what others are seeing (on two machines, both still 1909).

Attached is what I see ...

I'm on 2004 and see less options:

I know that they removed option to delete files form Downloads folder, which was not very smart to begin with. IDK about cloud and OneDrive - maybe I don't see them since I have those disabled.

Yeah, it's just the Bleeping Computer article shows familiar options (from Disk Cleanup), like 'memory dumps' and 'device driver packages' etc. that I've never seen under Storage Sense> Temporary files.

In that article there are 2 pictures - one for storage sense which is similar to my and the other is from Temporary files cleanup (manual cleaning). I think that you are talking about this second option. When I click on Temporary files in Storage (not Storage sense) I get this also:

    Thanks @stapp.

With Storage Sense on or off, I do get the 'Free up space now', when I run 'Configure storage sense or run it now' but in either case, I don't get 'Delete previous of Windows'.
This is probably because I had previously removed 1903, as @Minimalist has already suggested (with File Explorer Disk Cleanup), or it is indeed new with 2004.

I think that both options do the same thing - delete Windows.old folder. So if you do it once it won't be offered again, no mater where you try to run it (Disk cleanup or Storage).

I also thought that if I wrote the steps I took people would see that they don't have to have Storage Sense turned on in order delete previous Windows versions (if they haven't already done so by other means)

I even didn't notice that I had it on. I just manually deleted old version after upgrade (Using Disc Cleanup I believe). For now I'll let it on to delete temporary files those days that I forget to run CCleaner.

I read somewhere that installing the upgrade will definitely and undoubtedly repartition my HDD

I haven't updated my system for the last 4 years because I don't need to. I use it once in a blue moon.

Just wanted to make sure I am not mistaken.

I double-boot with Linux Manjaro - hence the dilemma.

It did not happen to me when I installed 2004 upgrade using Upgrade Assistant. Partitions remained the same and I could use Macrium to create incremental backup after upgrade (if partitions were changed, Macrium would notice this and I would have to create new full backup).
I don't know if this is true for all upgrades. If recovery partition was to small (for whatever reason) upgrade would probably indeed repartition your disk.
