    Is there any way to make the zoom level change to default and have it actually remain? I've been trying things including installing "Auto Zoomer" but each time I open Thunderbird in Kubuntu the zoom gets reset to tiny. I've tried making changes in Preferences > Display and Composition but that doesn't seem to help either. I can hold down Ctrl and tap +. That will zoom while ever Thunderbird is open but gets reset next time I open it.

    There is this article which presents various possibilities. Unfortunately, not all add-ons mentioned therein seem to be compatible with newer TB versions anymore. However, it depends what exactly you want to apply the zoom level to. If you're only interested in increasing the font size in your messages the tip mentioned in that article ...
    ... may be sufficient.

    A versatile method is creating a chrome subfolder in your TB profile folder (if it doesn't exist) and create the file userChrome.css therein. There are hints on that site how to use it. FWIW, the userChrome.css I've been using for a long time is:

    I have a problem with T-Bird that has surfaced in the recent versions. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to stop the behavior.

    I reply to a received e-mail; i.e. previous text copied into reply. When that e-mail is sent, I always end up with a copy of all T-Bird created files associated with that reply in the User Temp folder. This doesn't happen for newly created e-mail.

    Also I recently installed T-Bird on a fresh Win 10 1909 installation. This is when this behavior started. It did not occur on my previous Win 7 upgraded Win 10 version.

    Any remedies would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks. I had already found that article. It's a pity the add-ons mentioned (at the least the ones I tried) aren't compatible. Funny thing is changing the font size as per below made the add-on store unreadable.
    Yep, tried that. For some reason it doesn't help. Also tried an about:config change. Also no luck.
    That is way over my head I'm afraid. I wouldn't even have a clue, nor the first place to look where the profile folder is installed on my Linux Kubuntu machine.

    For Kubuntu:
    Open Dolphin, go to your Home folder, click Control button and check Hidden Files.
    .thunderbird is your Thunderbird folder, in which you find your Thunderbird profile folder, xxxxxxxx.default-release, where xxxxxxxx is a string of eight digits randomly generated by Thunderbird.

    Huh, that's strange! I deactivated my userChrome.css and set the minimum font size to 22 - no problems with that. The add-on store is still available. Btw, I noticed that the font size is not only changed in the messages but everywhere.

    @Stupendous Man 's post explains it well. Just adding that you can configure Dolphin such that hidden files are always displayed.

    And I forgot to mention that for using userChrome.css, toolkit.legacyProfileProfileCustomizations.stylesheet has to be set to true in about:config. A nice site with many user styles is https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforTb
    You can easily test, e.g., the file I posted above or any other and change, e.g., the values for font-size. If you're not happy with the result after restarting TB, just delete userChrome.css (or the whole chrome subfolder) and restart TB once more.

    Guys, before I start digging into my profile, I'm wondering if any of this could be related to having TB set to delete cookies when I close it? I've never used TB until just recently and only on Linux. I always remove cookies when Firefox closes, so that's the way I set TB.
    I wasn't seeing any change so I set the minimum font size to, I think 76 (?), then to 40. I'm currently booted into Windows so can't be sure about the sizes, but no matter what the size is, emails / fonts were tiny next time I opened TB.

    The main reason I'd like permanent zoom is because this machine is connected to my TV through my AV receiver and is a few feet / around two metres* away from me, and my eyes aren't getting any younger. :(

    Edit:* Actually, it's around 8 feet, nearly 2.5 metres.

    Setting up a new Windows 10 64-bit PC and went to install current Thunderbird 68.7.0. Apparently the default download from their site is the 32-bit version. Any reason not to use the 64-bit version instead?

    There was a long beta-phase from v69 - v78.0beta4.
    In this case the next stable version needs to be v78.0
