Click click. 'Tis the sound of a camera shutter working. Behold, a review of Shutter, a feature-rich screenshot tool, including basic and advanced features, plugins and image effects, export options, preferences, system integration, workflow, and more. Have fun.

Very handy screenshot tool. And great article, thanks very much.
I use Shutter in Kubuntu 18.04. Shutter is not available in later (K)ubuntu versions. Alternatives are using the unofficial PPA by Linux Uprising, or the snap version. Which would you choose, and why?

Ah, I just noticed that the author of the Linux Uprising article regarding the Shutter PPA wrote:
That must've been October 2018, if I'm not mistaken.
I don't know if the author knows about Alan Pope's recent Shutter snap. It has a few issues, however, of which the 'only allows selection and desktop' issue seems pretty bad.

Logix added a link to Alan Pope's Shutter snap in the Linux Uprising Shutter PPA article:
I hope users will be so wise to read Alan Pope's Shutter snap issues page on GitHub, so they won't be disappointed by snap issues such as 'only allows selection and desktop'.

Ah, I just noticed there's a 2 July 2020 Shutter snap review by Igor Ljubuncic. :)
A blast from the past – Shutter

The article mentions, "However, certain features do not currently work, including some outstanding problems that were present in Shutter even in the earlier days of its popularity and have not been resolved or patched."

One issue that is still listed at the issues page on GitHub, 'only allows selection and desktop', was not in the currently unmaintained version, that is, not in my experience. That is why for Kubuntu 20.04 I still consider the unofficial PPA by Linux Uprising.

As I'm not overly enthusiastic about using a limited Shutter snap version, nor about using the unofficial PPA, I decided to go for GNOME Screenshot.
