this ad pops up and has an empty page. i can't find any information about it.
i have just installed spyguard and spyblaster. Please tell me what to do.

i have XP and patch2 i have run numerous programs to rid my computer of viruses and ads etc. This ad pops up when i get on or off of IE.

 

The website is on ehowes block list........not good!....place it in the restricted zone or block it completely..........there is a re-direct to www.underground...have no idea what that is......

all in all......restrict it..block it......whatever you decide..........

 

What type browser are you using and when does it actually come up ?

Would you also do a file search of your Hard drive for a file named pup.exe....since that URL has been known to be associated with the winpup virus.

 

Which OS are you running? If you're running XP, install XP SP2. SP2 adds a pop-up blocker to IE.

 

Alternatively get yourself another browser I use opera myself, but there are others which do just as good a job.

 

this is throssi again - i tried all of your suggestions and nothing worked. i found the registry key with the pup.exe and deleted it several times, but if keeps coming back, and i still have that awful ad coming up when i get on or off of the internet with IE. i have the ad blocked and restricted on several programs. HELP!

 

Unfortunately....deleting the entry in the registry will not rid you of the Winpup(pup.exe) virus and it needs to be handled properly or you'll be chasing your behind for awhile.

My suggestion is to follow one of the following:

1) GENERAL Virus and Trojan removal Instructions.

2)Visit one of the below sites and follow their Forum procedures for posting a HighJackThis log. The experts there will then advise you on what action to take.

The vendor has a trial version......maybe...could be.....you think?



hmmmmmmmmmm..this bug shou;ld be covered by spybot or adawear...hmmmmmmm

 

While the above programs you mention will find remnants of winpup....and in some cases remove most of the items....chances are good other items have found a way onto throssi's PC. Which is why it is suggested to follow the steps laid out in BlackSpears well laid out Virus and Trojan removal Instructions.
