BTW, I have noticed that license.exe is still there, will it also keep asking to activate the license? Because it did happen to me with Sandboxie 5.28, but I can't remember if this was already the freeware version.

I thought that the new Edge is going to replace the old one completely but now I see it's a separate download only. Will this replace the current Edge that I have or will I end up with 2 variants of Edge?

When the new Edge is install either by Windows Update or the user manually, the old edge will be replaced.

There is apparently a way to keep both. But I personally haven't bothered to try it.

Thanks. I didn't want to keep both but was wondering. Strange why this update didn't come automatically through Windows updates but oh well, I updated it manually.

I think they were planning on releasing to Windows Update maybe in April or so, or maybe even with Windows 10 20.04. Probably a similar time frame for both.

Okay, pride gone, Sandboxie 5.33.3 is enveloping Opera in a great big hug. :-*

Actually, not using it so much for protection but to delete the hundreds of javascript files Opera accumulates like crazy.
Praying that the upcoming Windows 2004 will leave SBIE unscathed. Fingers crossed.

Hi plat1098. As things stand right now, I think Sandboxie will be OK with the next W10 version. The sooner it gets released, the better the chances of an update from SBIE if something major gets broken by the W10 update. It ll be better for SBIE if the next version of W10 is released before the end of May. I believe the next version of W10 is supposed to (or expected) be released at the end of next month, so we should be fine. :)

Problem is that it's a .msi file, and Sandboxie can't handle this at the moment. If I'm correct they are going to fix this soon. I want to install Edge inside the sandbox.

BTW, a couple of weeks ago we had a discussion, and I have now found a bit more info. I'm fairly confident that Sandboxie would have contained the malware, because the Firefox parent process is always under control of Sandboxie.

Without SBIE, the system would have been compromised assuming that AV fails to detect the zero day malware and you're not using any dedicated anti-exploit software. And yes, this attack was on macOS, but it could have also worked on Windows.

Of course in this particular case you would still need anti-logger software, but let's say the payload was ransomware, then SBIE would have simply virtualized file writes. So this pretty much ends the discussion, yes it still makes sense to sandbox browsers like Firefox, Chrome and others with SBIE. :thumb:

@bjm, I didn't update yesterday to allow the W10 update to settle down and see how all things behaved in W10 (related or not related to SBIE) after doing the update. Since everything appears to be fine, I updated Sandoxie today, after testing all things I do sandboxed, I can confirm (I read your post at the Sophos forum), that for me, 5.33.6 is also working great. I cant tell any difference in using 5.33.6 or 5.33.3.

    Sin título.jpg

Is good to let Sophos know that all seems to be well with this version, and is nice of them to want to know what we think about the new version. Since I never became a member of the Sophos forum, I am going to send Curt a mail to let him know that all is OK on my end with this version. But we should post here or there what we think about this SBIE update.

5.33.6 installed over the top of previous build. Win 10 1909.

    Seems ok so far.

Awesome stuff, seems like they quite serious about it. I do wonder how many paying customers Sophos has, would be interesting to know for future developers. Apparently it's not enough to make it interesting for Sophos to continue development, but I'm sure it can generate enough cash for small companies. Perhaps the developers of TinyWall, SpyShelter and EXE Radar will be interested, who knows?

Does anyone know how to enable Opera stable to update within Sandboxie? I have tried multiple times, it does not install. There was an message box one precious time which stated the update file was too large. Checked the Opera forum, nothing relevant.

It's not a big deal, I just quit Sandboxie and let Opera update outside. But this would otherwise be more convenient.

That's the ticket, thanks, deugniet! :thumb:

Set it to 148 MB--will see next time Opera updates if that's enough room and adjust either way.

Hi plat1098, maybe you forgot, but you are not supposed to update browsers in the sandbox. When is time to do an update, you run Opera outside the sandbox and go back to the sandbox afterward. For security, Sandboxie doesn't allow this type of updates to stick.

Also, if you save content in the sandbox, delete it after doing browser updates before running new version of the browser in the sandbox. Otherwise, you might run into issues.

Oh wow, OK. Back to what I was doing before, then.

Thanks for the reminder/alert, bo elam!

Just as a general observation: so far, Sandboxie 5.33.6 is running exceedingly well. No issues with my limited usage. :thumb:
