As internet forums die off, finding community can be harder than ever Twitter and Facebook just aren't as good as a message board for fostering discussions February 27, 2020 https://www.engadget.com/2020/02/27/internet-forums-dying-off/
Forums usually have more productive discussions, where posts on social media sites seem to be more likely to be full of random trolling comments and insults.
Yep at the gaming site I'm a member of most others post on Discord rather than using the gamesites forum. IDK why? I hope this one ain't dying though
They're not wrong. It seems with the concentration of power, comes less diversity and freedom to congregate around niche interests, to find that corner of the internet that is home. All the while the big concentrated players use terminology to imply that they alone are giving a voice to people and communities, while actually they are the ones stifling it, herding everyone into that company's ecosystem to be monetized and monitored. Corporate strangulation of the internet.
Forums thrive on in-depth posts. And that requires a modicum of intelligence - something that's becoming harder to find.
