    The only extension I have on the new Edge is uBlock origin from the Chrome store. Perhaps it might be a hardware acceleration thing?

    Are you perhaps using Eset for your AV? I'm having trouble running Edge within a Sandbox and I'm using Eset.

    It must be this. Running EIS 13. I just tried on another PC with KIS and it worked fine.

    Thanks bjm for the reply. Have updated the hide message notice alerts in UserSetting as you have suggested. Will see if it solves the problem.

    Have a weird problem with latest Sandboxie and latest Firefox 73.0. The Close/Minimize/Restore buttons in the top right disappear ONLY when I do a google search. Goto www.google.com and type something in. See if yours does the same thing.

    I'm using Windows 10 LTSC (1809) with Avira Antivirus. I've cleared cookies and removed userchrome and the same thing happens. This has to be the strangest bug I've ever come across. I have another PC with Windows 8.1, Avira, latest Sandboxie and it does not do this.

    The post you linked to is mine. :)

    I found a workaround. I changed security.sandbox.gpu.level from 0 to 2 and it works fine now. Does anyone know what exactly this line does? Am I compromising anything, security wise, changing it to 2? Thanks.

    @Fizbin. I dont find it strange that you see a difference in your Firefox UI when you run Firefox sandboxed than when you run it unsandboxed. Even I, see a difference (Look at right corner of pictures below). What I find strange in you case, is that it only happens when you search using google.com.

    In my case, the effect of using SBIE in Firefox, changes the appearance of Firefox UI in 2 ways. 1. The Close/Minimize/Restore buttons look differently, and 2. The extreme right corner of the Menu bar, looks white, contrasting with the rest of the color in the Menu bar.

    Is an old problem, you case is probably one of the worst I seen. There were a few threads at the old Sandboxie forum about this sort of problem. I remember Curt at least once blaming it on some Firefox code. There was an explanation why nothing could be done about it from the SBIE side, but I cant remember what it was.

    I think in my case, the change in UI that I see has to do not only with Firefox being run under Sandboxie, but also because of using userchrome.css to put tabs on the bottom, and to a lesser extent, the other changer in UI also conflict with newer changes that get implemented in Firefox, and this in turn, affects the looks of the UI in ways that are not supposed to. Also, using the Menu bar together with the css code and the changes in Firefox can create this sort of glitches in the UI. Is a combo of factors that generate this sort of glitch.

    I am using Firefox 73, with SBIE 5.33.2. What those pictures show is what I have been seeing for at least 5 years. Changes in my Firefox UI did not happen after going from Firefox 72.0.1 to 73.

    Ok, I have figured out the problem. Firstly, changing security.sandbox.gpu.level to 2 was no good because it caused FF to load slower, even unsanboxed. The problem stemmed from a pluggin called Firefox colors. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-CA/firefox/addon/firefox-color/ - after disabling it, the buttons no longer did the google-search/disappearing act.

    @bo elam - Yeah, I'm well aware of this bug as well. With Windows 10 1809 you can overcome the bug by not runing any external addon themes. Instead, if you use one of FF's built in themes, like the dark theme, the buttons will appear normally when sandboxed. This does not work with Windows 8.1 and it also may not work with other Windows 10 versions.

    well, i think your problem ist this
    you dont really know about the power of windows defender?

    anti-exploit, anti-ransomware, pua/pup, anti-crypto-miner and ofc signatures, cloud, samples.
    100% -> https://www.av-test.org/de/antivirus/privat-windows/hersteller/microsoft/

    we currently explained, why firefox 73 failed with avira and windows anti-exploit. (standard settings).

    -> https://wiki.mozilla.org/Security/Sandbox
    its called "extension" as a subgroup from "addons" in general (extensions, plugins, dictionaries, languages)

    BTW please leave comment on AMO when extension is buggy
    could be buggy:
    firefox is currently changing so fast code behind the visible, from xul to xhtml in many ways.

    about your issue - i cannot reproduce it completely in sandboxie - they buttons remain white here while outside they are (some kind of) blue (preset when opening the page first time). and yes, it has something to do with HWA (hardware accelletion -> gpu). they problem is caused by extension but its not intended to be compatible to any kind of user made environment, sorry. so at least working as expected. HWA in sandboxie ever was a matter (also for chromium based), not not anytime a problem.

    The problem opening files (like pdf, office, jpg) when browsing sandboxed with Firefox and there is a dialogue with the options to Save/Open and you choose to Open has been fixed. I don't know if it was fixed by updating Firefox to version 73, or by updating Sandboxie to 5.33.2, or the combo of doing both updates. But I just realized that it is fixed. :)

    I'm using free Avira. Been using this with Sandboxie for almost 10 years with no trace of malware or issues. I might look into Windows Defender for my dads PC

    The new MSEdge works just fine for me with the latest sandboxie. Now if only microsoft could allow us to do this with all apps from the metro store.

    sandboxie would need to be compatible with appcontainer. That's on Sophos or whoever decides to take over sandboxie once it is open source.

    As I wrote a few days ago, the opening files problem when running Firefox sandboxed has been fixed. At the time I didn't know whether it was the SBIE update or the Firefox update that fixed that problem, but now I can confirm that it was the Firefox update that did it. Now I know because since the day I wrote that post, I updated Firefox in my W7 (and without updating SBIE in that computer), I found the problem was fixed after the Firefox update was done.

    One down, one to go :D. I haven't updated Firefox to 73.0.1 yet, hopefully there is no regression with that version on this matter. I tested 73.0.1 earlier today in a sandbox and all went well but forgot to check opening PDF files, hopefully, we wont suffer any regressions regarding this issue in future Firefox releases.

    Regarding the msi problem. I got some good news. I heard today that they are working on it. Is not an easy problem to fix. But at least we now know that the issue is being looked upon and they are trying to come up with a solution. The technical explanation goes something like this, "Win 10 starts up a new msiexec that runs under the svchost in the host. So we must duplicate a lot of logic to make this 2nd msiexec run inside the sandbox." I know the solving of this problem is huge for many members of our SBIE club, including @Bellzemos and @Special. I know they and many other SBIE users would be very happy to see this issue fixed. Hopefully this fix will eventually happen.

    Well now you got me all excited for a potential fix. I'm glad they're looking into it at least, they really should really be more communicative over on that sad state of a forum of theirs, but then I kinda wouldn't either (those crying babies have pretty much made me stop going there...), but even outside of those forums I've seen a few Sophos guys express their love for Sandboxie, so it's good knowing there are some behind the curtains working on things, even if it's off-time/lunch-break type work, lol.

    Also GDI M$ stopping changing/breaking things!

    Nothing there changes much though. It's nice to hear they like the product. But in the end once it becomes open-source no one knows what will happen to sandboxie.

    Nice reading material the guy who works at Sophos wrote, but the truth is (according to what I know), when Invincea was purchased by Sophos (this might shock some people), most people who worked at Sophos, had never heard of Sandboxie. Most people there didn't know what SBIE was or that it existed. Amazing but true. Also true is the fact that Sophos never cared about SBIE or SBIE users. And the lies, lets not forget the lies. They lied from day one, the lies didn't start in April 2019.

    Yeah, I know. The appcontainer is trash. it doesn't actually contain anything as far as I've seen. MAYBE the app container restricts certain access to certain parts of the system? But I haven't seen any testing of the appcontainer where it did anything at all to prevent meaningful changes to the system by malware.

    I want the appcontainer gone so that I can use sandboxie to contain things like normal.

    Why would they spend millions of dollars buying it if they never intended to do anything with it? That's nuts. It wasn't even a competitor to anything they offer. And the userbase they had at the time probably wouldn't ever have used it.
