It started 15th of January, it's being released to newest computers firstly working backwards to older computers. If you have an older computer, you may be waiting around. If you interested in using it but still not offered via WU, you can download the latest stable version via official Microsoft download site... https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge

How long will Edge support W7. I am hoping it will be longer than Chrome will, that is why i installed the new Edge.

Edge will get updates on Windows 7 until "at least" July 15, 2021:

Microsoft will support Edge on Windows 7 for at least 18 months (January 13, 2020)

It will still work, you just won't get any more updates, which will make it less secure than an updated browser.

I believe that the difference between a Potentially Unwanted App and malware is that the PUA prompts you to install (though they try to sneak it in) and you can uninstall it. I'd rather not have Microsoft decide for me as I expect they will err on the side of caution and prevent me from doing things I actually want to do.

I did a search here on MicrosoftEdgeUpdateTaskMachineUA and edgeupdatem and found not much in any discussion. Not much out on the internet, either.

I've been running Win10 Pro on my newly built system since Feb 7. The OS was installed to a new EVO 970 from a v1909 OEI DVD - so no upgrade/update leftovers, etc.

I was seeing outbound connections for microsoftedgeupdate.exe. I don't use Edge 80 and couldn't care less about it; I opened it once to whack the appropriate settings.

    I found two tasks,
    Task Scheduler Library > MicrosoftEdgeUpdateTaskMachineCore
which runs microsoftedgeupdate.exe /c once daily and
    Task Scheduler Library > MicrosoftEdgeUpdateTaskMachineUA
which runs microsoftedgeupdate.exe /ua /installsource scheduler every hour.

    I disabled both.

    In Services there are,
    MicrosoftEdgeElevationService
    Microsoft Edge Update Service (edgeupdate)
    Microsoft Edge Update Service (edgeupdatem)

All at Manual by default but not running, for now I left them as is since they might be needed for Taco Patch Tuesdays or if one checks for Edge updates manually.

I have microsoftedgeupdate.exe blocked with a GlassWire rule. Ditto for msedge.exe which I found connecting out all by itself although I think "Disable Microsoft Edge launch in the background" in O&O Shutup will have taken care of that. (Also blocked are the old microsoftedge.exe and microsoftedgecp.exe which also connect out all by themselves.)

Yes, I bet now it's "clash of the titans" or something like that. Google's getting nervous, what? Using Opera also, not a peep from Google, as expected. I do use gmail but oddly, no ominous messages from Google when accessing gmail from chromium Edge. Not yet, anyway. :)
