Successfully updated here 1909 to build 18363.657, no problems and no double installation.

For me to see that update, I had to click Check for updates. Immediately before doing it, the machine had checked itself (this is after rebooting after updating to 18363.657), and not found it. Perhaps you are being wiser by waiting for a day or so, as this kb might be the kind of like the autopilot update that got installed in computers it wasn't supposed to be for. FWIW, as usual, all appears to have gone well with all the updates done today.

In regards to KB4524244:

I expect we’ll hear much more about a pan-Win10 patch, KB 4524244, Security update for Windows 10, version 1607, 1703, 1709, 1803, 1809, and 1903: February 11, 2020. Childs seems to have missed it, although Brinkmann includes it. The description:

Addresses an issue in which a third-party Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) boot manager might expose UEFI-enabled computers to a security vulnerability.

This would imply it only applies to PC's with UEFI based BIOS. My PC does not have a UEFI BIOS.

Well, I checked for Win Updates this morning. It immediately downloaded and installed in less than 10 secs w/o a reboot required.

My take on this KB is it might apply to ver. 1909; but only if you have a UEFI BIOS. BTW - it does show in Win Updates install history.

Microsoft pulled the standalone KB4524244 security update today, February 15, 2019, from Windows Update after confirming user reports about freezes, boot problems, and installation issues since it was released on February 11.

KB4524244 was designed to address "an issue in which a third-party Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) boot manager might expose UEFI-enabled computers to a security vulnerability."
The KB4524244 issues affect both home and server installations, a list of all impacted platforms is available in the table embedded below.
KB4524244 pulled, workaround available
To help users of affected devices, "the standalone security update, KB4524244 has been removed and will not re-offered from Windows Update, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) or Microsoft Update Catalog," Microsoft says on the Windows 10 Health Dashboard.

"This does not affect any other update, including Latest Cumulative Update (LCU), Monthly Rollup or Security Only update."

Microsoft’s latest update has now run into more trouble, as users are reporting serious issues after applying Build 18363.657 or 18362.657. The update, which had previously been deleting files and failing to install for some users, is now causing boot failures.

Users are warning that Windows 10 KB4532693 could break your computer and you won’t be able to boot after applying Microsoft’s recommended security patch. February 11 Patch is causing dreaded blue screen of death and boot failure for some folks and removing the patch is the only way to restore the system.
It’s not clear what might be going on with KB4532693 and how Microsoft messed up the important update again, but the company has a long history of releasing botched updates.

I will also add, I believe this update and possible resultant issues only applies to UEFI based BIOS's. The update ran and installed on my plain BIOS based device. But the run time was a few seconds indicating to me that the update just shuts itself down if N/A.

Something a little odd here.

On one machine Windows Spotlight stopped working. No big deal and I've got that working OK, but on machine #2 the power plan got reset some how. I have the display set to never turn off, have the power button set to shutdown plus a few other tweaks. After seeing that I checked machine #1 and it had its power plan changed from how I set it too!

Obviously I can't pin this on the above updates, both of which were installed on each machine, but it does make me wonder.

The only real change in either system was the Macrium Reflect update yesterday (when I noticed both issues).

Security researchers say KB4524244 was an (attempted) bid to revoke a Microsoft-signed Kaspersky UEFI bootloader, which could be used to circumvent Secure Boot (a security standard designed to ensure a device boots using only software that is trusted by approved OEMs).

On February 11, Microsoft released cumulative update ‘KB4532693’ with important security fixes, but the patch reportedly hides and deletes contents of the desktop.

However, there’s an even bigger problem for some customers. According to reports, Windows 10 KB4532693 update is said to be ‘deleting’ files and users are unable to find their data in the temporary profile folder. In worst cases, users have lost all their personal data and they are unable to recover it even after uninstalling the patch.

“This update KB4532693 caused all the data on my laptop to be erased. Even after uninstalling the update, the laptop would not successfully boot. Then “Resetting” the laptop to factory settings while choosing to keep all personal data erased everything. EVERYTHING. This is a major screw up. Unbelievable,” a frustrated user wrote.
“I have no words, this just happened to me, I just came to confirm it, it’s all over the web, but it’s not just a few files, for me it was dozens of gigabytes of data, [...]” another angry user confirmed the potential data deletion bug.

FWIW, I uninstalled KB4524244 a couple of days ago. I am not experiencing any issues but was pondering too much about whether I should or should not uninstall it. For me personally, uninstalling this update was the right thing to do.

I ran into some Windows Explorer problems (volume control unresponsive, explorer.exe crash) after installing KB4532693 on W10 here, but after two reboots all is well. At least for me, most Windows updates seem to require two reboots, to eliminate some irritating bugs.

The Infamous “Let us help you get upgraded” patch KB 4023057 has once again raised it’s ugly head. Each time it is re-released, the newer version makes it again eligible for Windows Update. Looks like Microsoft may be getting ready to push Force Upgrades to versions of Win10 prior to v1903/1909.

I uninstalled KB4524244 on my main computer. I couldn't be bother uninstalling it on anything else.

If I recall correctly, this is only the second time that I've ever uninstalled an update.

If you let Windows update itself with this month’s Patch Tuesday crop, you got a buggy UEFI patch that’s subsequently been pulled and a Win10 1903/1909 patch that jiggered profiles – think missing icons, desktops, files – on many machines. There were other fun ‘n games, too.
