Firefox and its derivatives (I use Palemoon) have an excellent bookmarks manager, either through the bookmarks toolbar or the bookmarks button. You just have to organize with folders and subfolders and backup regularly.
If you use the Bookmarks Favicon Changer extension you can customize the folder icons for a more intuitive access (and looks).

That's similar to what I've done. I keep common favourites I visit frequently on the toolbar and a couple folders with others that I sometimes launch with the "Open All in Tabs" option.

Thanks! This is exactly what I need when using Shadow Defender.

Yeah, I still have loads of them, but don't use them anymore. Could do a clean up like @roger_m, but probably best just to remove all those other than the handful I use.

Too much effort though, no harm keeping them really, for now.

I suppose it's just the way I have changed using the internet over time.

I must be in the minority. Currently in Firefox on this machine I have a grand total of 36 bookmarks, with most of those being videos I intend to watch soon.

I can't for the life of me ever see me needing to bookmark tens, hundreds or thousands of pages. Maybe I use the web very differently to many in this thread.

I try to keep less than 100, organized in folders. If I haven't visited a site in a long time,, I check to see if the bookmark is even still valid. More than often it is not. It's easy to delete invalid ones. Then I pick which ones to lose after that.

About 150 available on the bookmarks bar, and about 1000 archived.
