Police Scotland to roll out encryption bypass technology So-called 'cyber kiosks' will enable officers to get data from digital devices without a password January 14, 2020 https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow-news/police-scotland-roll-out-encryption-17568762.amp
Color me skeptical but this doesn't make sense to me. If I hand anyone my Laptop or Android and they are fully encrypted, which they are, exactly how can ANY device read the contents? My Android can only be booted with the proper 15 digit passphrase and the encryption package (supposedly) is solid and not backdoor'd. Of course I don't trust my life to anything Android, but giving PIE the benefit of the doubt would mean LE is not going to see what is on my Android. I am almost positive that my LUKS hardened vaults would hold up to anything known! So, are these devices simply creating forensic quality backups of encrypted space, OR are they saying they will read in plain text what is on the devices. Yea right, we have heard that song too many times in the past!!
""Privacy Rights Groups Slam Police Scotland Cyber Kiosk Roll-out Privacy International and the Open Rights Group claim that cyber kiosks are “too intrusive”, and raised questions over the legality of their use. Privacy rights groups have called on Police Scotland to stall the roll-out of ‘cyber kiosks’ until the Scottish Government can implement a clear-cut framework for their use..." https://digit.fyi/police-scotland-cyber-kiosk-roll-out-privacy-rights-groups/
