    I use Patch My PC.
It updates programs silently through a Windows task that is run in the background. I don't even notice it's there, until I see that qBittorrent has a newer version than it did yesterday.

Added Hard_Configurator's Firewall Hardening Tool, actually several weeks ago, enabling the recommended H_C settings to the setup in my signature. Running Insider build 19536.1000 and not one jot of a problem. Not yet, anyway.

I always update my apps and tools manually; I wouldn't want an app to update my stuff silently, without me being aware of it. Anyway, Patch My PC is pretty good, but it's probably not the kind of updater I want.

So you use H_C and OS Armor? I've been using H_C for a couple of days but I removed OSA prior to installing H_C. Andy Ful's tool is great but the GUI is a mess, very confusing. Anyway, unlike some other Windows hardening tools, H_C is actively developed and supported, and the developer is always there if you need help.:thumb:

Good to know, but I think I will stick with SUMo. Kyle's support is top-notch.

You don't need H_C installed for this. You can download it separately and then copy to Windows folder.

I think that's because it can be implemented in so many different ways. If you just choose "Recommended settings" or load another profile you like, it's quite simple. But I will say that when I first started using it, I found it a bit mesmerizing. The GUI has actually improved over time. And Andy will be the first to admit he's a developer, not a graphics designer! :D

    This, most definitely! :thumb::thumb:

@Bertazzone The GUI has improved? OK, I really don't want to know what it looked like in previous versions.:D;)
What really counts, however, is Andy's top-notch support and and his development of a security tool that works as advertised.

@Buddel As @Beyonder says, I let PatchMyPC just detect the available update, then initiate its update manually when I'm ready (e.g. if I want to image first).

PatchMyPC works beautifully, one of those 'magic' apps (like Bvckup 2), portable too. Worth trying if you haven't.

spybot : ancient technology not good enough , same goes for superantispyware......better suggestion would be emsisoft emergency kit , adwcleaner , roguekiller and zhpcleaner....

PatchMyPC has a predefined list / database of apps that are monitored.

SUMo works in an interesting way, it will report a later version if it detects that on any monitored system. There are occasional FPs e.g. betas (or sometimes the dev's error), but Kyle is quick to fix them if reported through SUMo (or in SUMo thread). Else skipped or ignored.
So effectively the list is all apps, used by at least one person using SUMo.

Again, best @Kyle_Katarn fills in the details.

Patch My PC can update over 300 different apps. However, SUMo supports many more apps. Patch My PC actually downloads and silently installs updates, whereas SUMo just opens the developer's website in your browser and you need to manually download and install the updates.

I greatly prefer the approach used by Patch My PC, IObit Sofware Updater, etc to SUMo. But because of the way that they work, SUMo will always support finding updates for many more apps. In my opinion if you use SUMo, it would make sense to use something like Patch My PC as well and just you SUMo for updates that the other software missed.

SUMo's main value for me is just as notification of what is out of date, especially useful for portables (if not through PortableApps.com, SyMenu or WSCC).

Then update manually, or use something like PatchMyPC if the app is supported.
