Sometimes Panda does upgrade to new versions. It usually doesn't, but I have seen it happen.

Panda usually does not check for new product versions, so you are stuck with the version you installed, unless you manually download and install new versions. There was only one time when I was using it, that it was able to upgrade to a new version by itself.

The original question, from me, was about AI in the cloud on Panda free version. See page #4.

I missed that. I don't recommend using either free or paid versions of Panda anymore, as they take at least a few days to add signatures for new malware.

Man this sucks and is a horrible idea for a security product. How would people who are not so tech savvy ever know? they probably wouldn't and would just use an ancient version forever. Really is it that hard to make an app auto update?

Do the paid versions also suffer from this?

    Yes, they do.

If an AV has millions of subscribers (free plus paid), then rolling out an automatic update can take a huge amount of bandwidth. That can cost a lot of money. Further, if it turns out that the update has a bug in it, that can cause millions of computers to get screwed up -- a proponent's worst nightmare (and, yes, it has happened).

Most of the top tier AVs do provide automatic updates, often by staged rollouts, but Panda evidently has a tight grip on their pocketbook and is blessed by a largely undemanding customer base.

Personally, I never allow automatic updates because my other security apps can break the updates. I prefer an app to merely notify me when an update is available, so I can initiate it on my own. Also, I like to make an image of C-drive just before making any major update to an app, especially if the update is for a security app.

yeah that makes sense actually. I just hope like you, that it would at least notify us that there is an update. I was using v18 for like a month and had I not had asked here, I wouldn't have ever known that we are on v20 now

That's really amazing, I have no time for a C-Drive backup every time an app get's an update! I would prefer an intelligent automatic update but I think it won't ever happen with Panda ...

However, you get 100 % protection for free. :thumb:

Since you are not responding to my question i guess that you do not have facts to backup your statement.

    Under a bushel ...
:thumb: Agree (not just Panda, and also Windows itself, so a bit off thread). Automatic updating yes, but with prior notification / prompt to initiate, so you can schedule in your own time, image if you want to, and monitor in real time.

And how do you "know", by experience, that Panda free uses AI in the cloud?
