[My App] McAfee SuperDAT Updater

Ok i made a updater for McAfee which automatically downloads and applies SuperDAT daily definitions,but i need some (personal opinion) info from you

McAfee SuperDAt updater stores these files in folder:
%SysDrv%\McAfee SuperDAT Updater\

(%SysDrv% variable stands for disk on which Windows are installed)

Do you want all file and folders to be left where they are after update process or do you want them to be removed automatically after update is done?

Are these the beta daily DATs and will this updater work with the Corporate AV?

I cannot find the specific update folder that you mentioned in the program folder for McAfee 8.0i.

 

No,the folder is created by my app and its not connected with McAfee in any way. Yes its for Enterprise Edition (regular version (McAfee VirusScan 2005) didn't work with SFX SuperDAT). The only strange thing is that all daily SuperDATs are marked as version 4100. Then if you run integrated updater,it will overwrite these superdats no matter what grrrr

So in case you'll use my updater you'll have to disable normal updating system?

 

I assume so. Even using the internal updater overrides the beta DAT files.

 

that's not a problem with the beta DAT files, it is a way of distinguishing that they are NOT QA release and have been minimally tested only.

 

Who cares. I don't want to wait one week for next "QA" checked release. Same with Norton. Norton at least treats Rapid Updates as official ones and it doesn't overwrite them.

 

Yeah, it's a shame, but you have to uncheck the definitions option in the Update task.

By the way on a side-note, is the ability to check to see if a file has changed before downloading apply most easily to ftp links instead of http?

 

Yeah well i use HTTP with version file checking (INI file in this case),but this overwrite thing opens whole new load of problems grrr
