EL includes a rule to hide the 2nd anr 3rd elements as a generic cosmetic rule, but if your blocker is inefficient, you may see the element for a (mili-)second(s) just after the page load.

Thankfully I'm there already. Apart from my password manager add-on, uBlock Origin is the first, and sometimes only, other add-on I use.

Good decision. uBlock got approved for now, but this is just delaying the inevitable.
Not that anyone cares what I'll do, I was hoping that the outcries will give some result so I cried a bit :D
But the powers that be are adamant - a limit of 30000 filters... lel. *****
I use 4. Already did a test drive and the switch will be seamless.

If I uncheck [ ] Ignore generic cosmetic filters in uBO and run the test again.
Results before and after refresh of test page are:

    <li>: Should not be hidden

NOTE: That is only if [ ] Disable cosmetic filtering is unchecked.
Cosmetic filtering is always enabled by default in uBO.

If you only see that when generic cosmetic is enabled and don't see other two even for a moment, your blocker is working well.

OK thanks, I have disabled it and it now seems to run faster.

Note currently enabling this can have performance impact. I think uAssets filters will soon adapt and then @gorhill will turn it on by default. Probably AdGuard will follow sooner or later.
Not exactly correct. Indeed, okiehsch have added an injection rule to uBlock-Privacy filter, but this have to be done by site-per-site basis so by no means is efficient, and there's a case involving image only. It's also possible to block these randomely-looking subdomains one by one, as such a strategy itself is nothing new - again, it's a matter of efficiency. The statement that 1st party resources are usually not blocked is also incorrect.

    @Bertazzone ,

Ah, I don't know how I missed that.

    "Beta 1.24.1b0 and newer"

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Thanks also to @deugniet . :thumb:

I am still on my 1-year -ole Vaio...

And the pain of my rig/ Firefox/ turns out to be... drumroll... Ublock

All of a sudden my CPU works as expected, that is no overheating while working on multiple Tabs

Is there a less CPU hungry addon to replace Ublock or should I test other settings with Ublock?

Perhaps stop using it entirely and modify the HOSTs file more radically?

I can't believe it how smoothly my oldish friennd Vaio is working today, butt the number of ads....wow

I am skeptical about your conclusion -- this goes against all the findings out there. I even use uBO on a 13 y/o laptop and it's not a performance issue.

But it's easy to sort out since you are using Firefox: you can simply launch a profiling session using the Firefox profiler and share your results.

    Questions:

    - Which exact version of Firefox? ("latest" is not a useful answer)
    - Which exact version of uBO?
    - What filter lists did you enable in uBO?
    - What uBO settings did you modify?
    - What other extensions are you using?
    - Did you make modifications to Firefox's `about:config`?

Plus a few that are disabled.

Did I? Yes. Too many to trace. All of them were encouraged by tech gurus though, nothing off my own accord.

Now I am trying to work out how the Geco Profiler should help me :)

you dont need noscript with ublock, thats rubbish and not useful.
    which antivirus is installed?

this profile on win7 x64 = no issues, same performance as win10

With all due respect Brummelchen, I disagree, at least if NoScript's restrictions are disabled, which is how I use it with uBlockO. This way NoScript's excellent XSS filter is functional, and all other filtering is handled by uBlockO.

you need to adjust ublock filters or create your own rules.
and uBo ofc is able to handle XSS which is nothing else than scripts or data from 3rd-party domains
    https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrig...o_hard_mode_enough_to_replace_noscript_or_do/

its not advertised as blocking xss but uBo is able to do this as long it exists.
this is the result of reading the wiki.
and you can refine such rules

It looks to be a fine line between using both extensions or uBlockO only in Hard mode, but the latter leads to likelihood of higher website breakage, so I'll just stick to both with uBlockO in medium mode, though thanks for the suggestions.
