Failing SSD - read-only mode?

Hi.
My oldest SSD is about to die. I noticed a SMART warning in Event Viewer after which I checked the drive with a couple of SSD tools and they all reported the same, 1% life left. Event Viewer warning noted that the drive will soon become read-only (suggested that I should backup etc.). Needless to say, I replaced it.
I'm now coming up with an idea to store some data (of no great importance) on the old drive while it's still writable and use it in read only mode as long as it holds. Does that make sense? Or is the read-only mode also going to fail soon? I did some searching, but was unable to find anything conclusive. Has anyone had a case like this?

Out of interest, what is the Total NAND Writes? What size is the SSD?

 

Hi Brian.
Disk is Kingston SH103S3240G 240.0 GB with 35000 power on hours.
As for the writes, I would have to reconnect it to SATA as I already took it out of desktop case and put it in an USB case. Tomorrow (maybe day after).

 

Actually no, I just did this and CrystalDisk won't show NAND writes. I don't know why.

 

Have you tried Hard Disk Sentinel?

Not exactly sure where to look, but Sentinel also shows 0 for all writes, Compressed and Lifetime.

What is the band and model of your SSD?

EDIT: Just to add, I don't think this is app specific. That info (NAND writes) shows fine for my new SSD in both apps.

Sure. I see no reason why not - AS LONG AS you don't make this the only backup of your data.

I'll make this an experiment then and continue to use the read only drive. Let's see how long it will last.
