I had been using TunnelBear happily for a couple of years now. My main threat model is being profiled by Comcast. Just about any VPN solves that problem. In the last week, I have been unable to connect to at least three sites (Apple, CamelCamelCamel, and another I forgot). I get a failure to connect notice or a Bad Gateway notice. When I turn TunnelBear off, the connection goes through. Is anyone else having this problem? Any guesses on what is going on? Are a bunch of TunnelBear nodes suddenly blacklisted?
How common is this with VPNs? I know Netflix tries to identify all of the VPNs and blacklist them so people can't circumvent geographical restrictions, but how common is it for regular websites? It seems strange that I've never had this problem in two years, now I run into it three times in the same week. Is there a common blacklist that they're looking at?
mostly common with forums but some others do it as well, especially ones protected by cloudflare. there are some websites where you can run a blacklist check. just google it and you'll see. bear in mind that they don't use or rely on those db's.
