I just received an email from YouTube about a change to YouTube’s Terms of Service.

    Isn't greed simply wonderful?

The days of offering new digital innovations as a useful convenience and framework for user creativity goes backseat for the almighty dollar.

Always expected this and more, and sure enough is finally set that exact stage.

As the old saying goes, nothing for free lasts. You get what you pay for.

Pretty easy to see this coming a long time ago. The "not commercially viable" excuse is also unsurprising. It's only partially true. What they really want is to silence voices they don't agree with and using the money excuse is a slick way of pulling the wool over peoples eyes.

What exactly does Google mean by "Service Provider. Your service provider is now Google LLC."? Does it mean they are now my default video viewing/upload service?

What's wrong with "silencing voices they don't agree with"? You Tube is not a non-profit, public service utility. It seems we are in the "entitlement generation" that says, "I'm entitled to publish or say any dadgummed thing I want, and You Tube should be forced to publish it at THEIR expense." Goooood grief!

So, am I right to assume that many of you here don't watch YouTube videos or are unaware of the struggles many YouTube creators have been going through?

Cant speak for other people regarding how much they watch youtube, but I think people generally do know about the struggles going on in youtube land.

Gooood grief- really? Well you just very adequately participated in the self "entitlement generation" you're telling others they're doing. Might pay to remember while you're pointing fingers at people there's 3 pointing back at yourself. Most people who have any semblance of an idea of whats going on at all, will see Google is an unstoppable greedy monster. Period.

You misunderstand the meaning of "entitlement generation." I commend you to carefully read this article by Time Magazine. It starts a bit anti, but eventually evolves to an optimistic/hopeful pro. Keep an open mind & you may find that it's a rather interesting commentary that can lead to better understanding of the millennial generation (a.k.a entitlement generation).

By the way, my grandchildren are all millennials. They are the authors of my great-grandchildren whose generation is yet to be assigned a label.
Like it or not, USA is a capitalist economy. Capitalism is an imperfect system. Even so, it is better than any of the alternative economic systems undertaken across all the centuries of human history. Google is not "unstoppable" for the same reasons that several of USA's previous "giants" were not unstoppable (AT&T, Standard Oil, et alia) -- concerning which I suggest the careful reading of this Wikipedia article.

@bellagim - not interested in a war of words thanks. Suffice it to say, and on topic, Google uses purposely and carefully chosen words that are confusing. These guys are not dumb. They know exactly what to put in their TOS even for the purpose to see what response they might bring. Nothing would surprise me as to what they'd stoop to.

Does anyone know if there is a way how to stop getting that annoying message every time I visit YouTube. I open and close the browser many times a day, and visit YT often. Every time I go to YT, I have to click to dismiss, to view, the annoyance. Are you guys also being bombarded by YT every time you visit?

@bo I haven't seen that message as yet. Not sure if it applies to you, or if it makes a difference, but I don't log into any Google accounts including youtube.

Feel lucky, Reality. Is extremely annoying. It doesn't happen in IE but I only use Firefox. If I visit YT 10 times during the day (if I closed the browser), the annoyance shows up 10 times and have to dismiss it every time.

You are probably not seeing it because you are using an adblocker. It can be blocked by using an element hider. I tested last night using Adblock plus but I dont want to use an adblocker. I might temporarily setup a sandbox dedicated for visiting YouTube. And use ABP in that sandbox for as long as the annoyance is showing up. This is probably going to last till about December 10 (hopefully no longer than that). I am going to play with this later.

Yep I'd be extremely annoyed at that. It sounds like you close your browser alot. I almost always close my browser on each site visit and have SBIE flush anything I may have missed, thus 10 times would get very old very quickly.

This annoyance shouldn't last too much longer hopefully.

Actually I open and close the browser during the day many times more than 10 times. I dont like mixing browsing. So, I open and close all the time. I dont feel annoyed or inconvenient by doing it. I feel is the best way to keep things clean, protect my credentials. Also, it helps keeping resources usage by Firefox low at all times. Whenever I log in anywhere, I do it in a fresh browsing session, when I finish, after login out, I delete the sandbox and open a new browsing session. And go do whatever. FWIW, I am still getting the annoying messages from YouTube. I am going to work on what I am going to do about it later tonight.

@bo, AFA annoyance, I was referring to your hypothetical 10 youtube visits. Likewise, I don't like mixing browsing and so don't mind opening and closing browser as you describe. All the best nuking the YT annoyance.

Is more than one message. Is like YT is in a bombardment campaign, perhaps its local. The picture I posted earlier is what I see when I open a video. This is what I see in the front page. Notice, the picture at the bottom is about new features (I cant stand YT changing things all the time, perhaps they know that).

@bo, I guess the only way to stop that is use an ad blocker. I haven't seen anything at all. I don't go to YT main page though, if that makes a difference. I generally have a couple of channels I go straight to and that's it. I agree that YT changing things is pretty annoying. In my view there's nothing worse than being bombarded with stuff and it's one of my pet hates with advertising. With the advent of targeting ads and such, I wouldn't put it past Google (and the like) to tailor ones experience on their site/s including bugging you about stuff.

I also wouldn't rule out "local" if you mean your locality as in, country, or even state/province. Did you decide to try using an ad blocker?
