    I used to be a Webroot user, and I liked it, but eventually abandoned it due to persistent and recurring WRData issues which were never solved.
    But for others it still works @bellgamin!

    As mentioned above, it would be interesting to know where Canadian OpenText sees value.

    Maybe a step in the right direction? Still wondering what OpenText has in store for our little green friend.

    Webroot must be so great that they bought the company because of Webroot’s endpoint protection and threat intelligence solutions. They must not have read this thread before making that decision.

    All depends if the price is right for the CEO to take his "Golden Parachute" and sell the company like the last two CEO's did at Webroot within a year. You never could tell now a days what is in the future with a Security Software Company. $$$ Talks. ;)

    Webroot's decision to let Carbonite acquire them was not Potts' but a unanimous decision by the board.

    But ProTruckDriver is spot on, it's about $$$. It's not about developing Webroot into the best product possible and continueing to do so.

    No, Webroot what is it...10-12 years ago got $100 million from a venture capital firm, you don't get that for nothing of course, it has to be a "good" investment in the end and now it's the third buyout. I would be very surprised if it's even around as a product we now in 2 years. In the end, it's only about $$$.

    @Sir Percy

    I'm not convinced.

    I don't know too much about how American businesses work but last time I checked, board members don't get "Golden Parachute" payments. Also, if the board members owned any shares, Carbonite's acquisition price for Webroot's shares was pretty cheap. What I do find interesting is that the decision for that acquisition was unanimous (I've followed the second acquisition less closely). There is obviously a reason (I have my theory, as do others) but we'll never actually know for sure what it was.

    Incidentally, what are you talking about when you refer to "the third buyout"?

    Well @bellgamin, this is one of those rare occasions where I agree with you :)

    I may not have done as much research on the details of the acquisition, but I have done my research on the company and it appears to be a pretty impressive outfit.

    I'm hoping that OpenText improves upon what Webroot already does and smooth out the rough edges; and I hope whatever modifications and improvements are done, Webroot is still offered to consumers.

    I hoping the same. I would love to put WSA back on the Mac with backup & Sync because it worked flawlessly until about the last year then ran into problems. Time will tell. ;)

    I had problems with Webroot on Windows 10 and decided not to renew.. Here's to a new year with better possibilities on the horizon!
