Woody posted on Twitter ... MS has acknowledged yet another bug in this month's patches for Win7, 8.1, Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2 and Server 2016. This one knocks out TLS in certain circumstances, because EMS is suddenly enabled by default.

I always try to be careful not to install updates that will nag me about W7 end of life, but it looks like I let one slip through. Guess which little box I checked in the lower left! Anyone have an idea which recent W7 update might be the culprit?

Ugh. I went to uninstall KB4493132, and I see that it was installed, but it is not on the list of updates that can be uninstalled. Maybe I'll get lucky having checked the 'Do not remind me again' option, although I kind of doubt it.

    Hi @Page42

I don't know how it works on Win 7 Ultimate, but you could try to set the reg-keys which I mentioned here. It are the reg-keys mentioned in KB4524752 for the Pro version.

    Those reg-keys:
    Code:
    Registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Gwx
    DWORD name: DisableGwx
    Value data: 1

    Registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
    DWORD name: DisableOSUpgrade
    Value data: 1

BTW: I still use the GWXControlPanel as mentioned in the discussion in the other thread.

I'm leaving things alone for now. Since I checked the 'Do not remind me again' option, I'll see if that works before making registry tweaks. So far so good.

    OK, I understand, thanks.
Maybe that "Do not remind me again" option is setting those same reg-keys, but I don't know that for sure.

    Win10 1903 did 2 updates.
MSRT and a cumulative KB4524570. Cumulative seemed to take a little while and did the 2 installs thing (probably doing a service stack as well ?)
    Was asked to restart.

Went to updates again and was offered the 1909 Feature update. It was very quick and painless with a restart required.

Now my OS is Win 10 1909 build 18363.476

Every time I check for updates I'm offered the MSRT. Again and again. On 2 computers. No Win10 1909 offered.

Are you on 1903? If so look for a link just below where the section with the updates you are offered. It it's not there then I'm not sure but I missed it on the first couple of PC I checked.

1903. I'm up to date (apart from the MRST) but can't see other things to click.

Very brisk on here and yes, also noticed the double installation. Malicious Software Removal Tool and Cumulative KB 4524570. Winver is also 18363.476. At least the release notes are provided in a timely manner this time. Looks like 1903 and 1909 got the same things. :)
