Actually, they're gone... and almost totally forgotten.

They split up and all went their own way you can assume.

Personally I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Isso returned again at some point with a new introduction of something.

The spindle HDD software UltimateDefrag (now v.5) is still very well working with perfection on my Windows 8.1 units. Although as he mentioned, he wasn't the developer, he did introduce it on this forum and tracked comments/questions with helpful answers and suggestions just as when AX64 began it's run.

    Hi all,
I recently decided to remove AXTM V1 (v1.4.?.?) from a Win7 PC. The trouble is that when I uninstall it and reboot, windows crashes and reboots, and so on. The only cure is to restore the system (for instance with AXTM...) and it works again. If I can't uninstall AXTM v1, is there a way to stop sector modification tracking in order to make the system "lighter". Thanks.

    Hi again,
I have looked the thread. I have not the same issue. I managed to remove the special boot menu with the options below "Create Boot Media" but the issue remains. After AXTM64 is removed, at next reboot, Windows won't boot, it starts but crashes almost instantly, reboots, and so on... The only easy fix is a full restoration with ... AXTM64, which works well. My concern was to try improve my PC responsiveness... For now, I guess I have to keep it...

I'm hopeful our friend @TheRollbackFrog may have some further insight (or any of the many AX users that were around at the time)
    Hang in there :)

Not digging up an old thread at all.
If you look above a couple of posts you will see one of our fellow members is asking for our help.
That's what we are here for, to try and help each other if we can :)

What's fully is that this version of AXTM 64 (1.4.?.?) is working really fine on that Win7 PC, and restoration works nice too (which is the least one can expect actually). But due to performance issue, I would like to disable it. Maybe next try is to disable the driver. This can be tricky but it will not be my first restore should this fails too...
    Regards !

WOW! This thread came roaring back all of a sudden... amazing!

@MerleOne - we'll take a stab at this and see if we can get rid of this sucker. The first step is available in a PM I just sent you (installing a different version of the product) and further work we'll just do under this thread... good luck!

Sorry for reopening the thread and stirring again these issues. Special thanks for the PM and all the info. Nice to see one is not alone with such issues, even with "old" products.

I occasionally replay with this product, but I always have a Reflect backup so if I want it gone it's easy. If you haven't succeed I can test it with revo uninstaller and see if that works. Keep us posted.

Thanks. Actually the uninstaller seems to work well, provided I remove the recovery environment before uninstalling AXTM64, it's just that after uninstall, the system won't boot any longer. As it was suggested to me, I could try to install the latest V1 version on top of the current one (which was stable for me so far) and then uninstall the software. And also disable the AV during the process.

Will report here whenever something new occurs.

BTW, this reminds me a little about an issue I had trying to remove Shadow Protect by Storagecraft from an old PC (again an Asus...). I was lucky, so I thought, to have won a license on some Website (maybe here ?), but that version had too many issues so I wanted to uninstall it. After that, VSS was crippled and I was not able to fix it. Only by reinstalling this software, VSS started to work again, I just had to live with it... Even with all the kind and helpful info I got today (thanks again for the quick replies), I might have to leave it installed, and find other ways to improve speed on this PC. Another tricky business... Requires craftsmanship I still don't have...

@MerleOne , FY! If all else fails, and your current uninstallation works when you DON'T REMOVE AXTM's recovery environment, what's left will not not hamper your CPU and its capabilities much at all. The Recovery Environment is nothing more than a BOOT reference to a WimRE recovery file (which will never get executed) and may be removed manually when all the dust settles. If for some reason the AXTM.SYS driver is still in play (it most likely won't be), the amount of CPU cycles it requires to keep track of the disk utilization is basically non-descript... I wouldn't even worry about it. And through a last resort, its REGISTRY reference (for activation) can be easily removed, once found (that shouldn't be hard)... at which point it will never run again.

Interesting, yes, no need to remove right away the RE. What is strange is that when I tried to uninstall AXTM, since I didn't manually removed the RE from within the app, Windows wouldn't reboot but the Recovery Environment was still present and functional and it was a quick way to restore the laptop... I still had a USB flashkey recovery media somewhere but it was easier that way.

Regarding AXTM load, I was afraid it was on the HDD itself, not on the CPU. CPU has some resources left, it's the HDD that is heavily used (for some unknown reason). I wanted to try without AXTM to see if it improved. In those situations, it's not always easy to pinpoint the culprit, should there be only one.

Thanx again for the tip !
