Here's a long, thorough and largely negative review of System76 POP!_OS, a Ubuntu-based distribution, tested in a dual-boot configuration on a laptop with Nvidia graphics, covering live session, installation and post-install use, including look & feel, networking - Wireless, Bluetooth, Samba sharing, printing, multimedia support - MP3 and HD videos, partitioning, two-part install wizard setup, package management and updates, Nvidia and other proprietary drivers, applications, smartphone support - Android, iPhone and Windows Phone, hardware support, resource utilization, performance, customization, and many problems like ISO boot troubles, severe ergonomic and readability issues with default theme and fonts, missing codecs, broken webcam, suspend & resume, other observations, and more. Take a look. https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/system76-pop-os.html Cheers, Mrk
Three reviews for 18.04 in Distrowatch all give it highly favorable reviews. No offense whatsoever to Mrkvonic's Linux reviews - all mostly negative - in recent years, but he must have the most Linux-unfriendly hardware on earth.
I understand that that support will be commercial: https://ubuntu.com/esm. See https://askubuntu.com/questions/1093582/what-are-the-specifics-of-18-04s-ten-year-support as well on what some community members say.
So Ubuntu 18.04 will have 5 years as LTS FREE & 5 years as ESM (Extended Security Maintenance) PAID support. Ubuntu 18.04 release date was 04.26.2018. So FREE support until 04.26.2023. Then only PAID support till 04.26.2028.
