Why is it necessary to get a system tray popup about privacy clean. Would be good to be able to stop it from happening.
It is the flushing of memory to the database for caching purposes, so that makes sense. Eventually we have to write to the database and we delay it as long as we can.
Just to be clear this mutes the Clean on Browser exit message, but not the General privacy clean every 4 hours, or when done manually. The Enterprise edition has an additional option to mute that also. If there is enough interest we can push it down to the client too. Our feeling was that a client would probably want to know what is happening. But I guess they could decide that if they wanted.
Hello, I think this issue is solved and it seems it was related to Kaspersky Anti-Virus. I have added all five BlackFog Privacy folder's executables to the trusted apps list of KAV and the hard disk thrashing has disappeared. Best regards
Unfortunately the hard disk thrashing is back but I finally found the cause of it. It wasn't the Kaspersky Anti-Virus but the thrashing occurs when the files "privacyservice.db-wal" and "privacyservice.db", inside the folder C:\ProgramData\BlackFog\Privacy are periodically overwritten by the software (I just checked the timestamp of both files when the thrashing occurred and it corresponds) I'm asking the developer if it's possible to do something about this issue. That is correct Serphis, although they are not overwritten, but rather updated as the caches are flushed to disk at that time. It will also depend upon how busy your machine is from a network perspective. At some point we have to flush to disk to keep memory usage low. Its about the only thing we hit the disk for actually.
Thanks for replying to my post. The file "privacyservice.db-wal" actually is 4.120.032 bytes and "privacyservice.db" is 1.765.376 and it seems they increase their size during the use of PC but I don't know why they cause that hard disk thrashing and why is so noticeable compared to other softwares that also periodically update their files, like antivirus, for example. It also seems I am the only one with this problem because no one on this forum complained about it. Anyway BlackFog Privacy is a good software and I think i'll renew my license at the expiry date. I will have the team look at optimizing that routine for you and you can see if it makes a difference on your machine. Should have somethign for you to test in 24 hours or so.
Thanks Darren; I'm sorry if I'm a bit annoying with this issue. However the size of "privacyservice.db-wal" didn't change after the recurring updates and it's stable at 4.120.032 bytes, even after a Pc reboot and Windows 10 version 1809 update to Build 17763.832. The size of "privacyservice.db" increased to 1.839.104 bytes.

Hi Darren, Thank you very much; you and your team did a great job and quickly solved my problem. An hour ago I uninstalled 4.0.3 version, rebooted the PC and installed the version that I downloaded from the link you sent me. Now the hard disk thrashing has totally gone, both when the file "privacyservice.db-wal" is updated every 5 minutes (the file size now is only 2.949.952 bytes) than when clicking on the Exfiltration tab. The file "privacyservice.db" hasn't updated until now and its size is only 4096 bytes. Best regards
@Darren Williams: I just discovered this thread and your product, and it looks very promising! A quick question: on your website, it says that BFP works with versions of Windows from 7 to 10. Vista (x64) isn't listed. Is that because Vista isn't significant enough to list, or because BFP actually won't work on a Vista system? Thanks in advance. I have a couple of Vista systems and a couple of Win7 systems that could stand to benefit from BFP's protections.
@Darren Williams Any plans to add exclusions to android version? It can be annoying to disable protection for some websites to work.
Hi JEAM, we don't support VISTA because it simply doesn't have the API's we need and ultimately not supported by MS, so it wasn't worth the effort to support. Re: Android, yes we will be updating that soon with some more features like white and blacklisting.
so one might ask himself why using this program while you could (albeit theoretically) achieve the same with adguard (blocking ads and downloads), peerblock (geofencing), Hdcleaner, AV (site blocking), entiexploit (fileless malware) and maybe even all for free that until you uninstall the program you realize how great it is, this program literally makes most malicious sites non malicious and friendly to the user, a clean Internet that loves you uninstall Blackfog and you'll see tons of pop ups, malwaretizing, scripts and nagging messages what is missing (not much) is perhaps some custom rules for sites, ip adresses and system processes and protocols, more options for ppl who like to tweak second, would be great if you made an offer plan like 3 PC for 3 years (5 is too much), or 2+2, like two stationary PC and 2 android phones, best regards
Thanks for the fast reply, I was afraid something like that might be the case. I'm in the process of fortifying our family's Windows 7 PCs for the January 2020 EOS, so I'll still look into getting a single or multiple-license pack for them.
