    @bellgamin, I think I've been studiously avoiding name-calling since PTD wisely counselled us against that, and limited myself to addressing the arguments and the tone of the arguments. However please correct me if I'm mistaken on this.

    I wonder what is your gain to perpetually defending Webroot? Are you related to it? Employee, investor, CEO family?

    Yes it grows so much that it was sold for peanuts. In business you don't sell what is going to give you more money lol.
    Your source? The CEO and PCmag, most biased sources lol.

    As said Ultron, "you are unbearable naive"

    I hope you can use WSA for long time. Honestly, you love it so much it is astonishing hahaha

    No. CFO (and of Carbonite).
    Who was, by the way, pretty unsparing of the Q2 financial results for Carbonite.
    Neither.
    If you look at all my posts, here and elsewhere, you will see that when I do quote, I quote from somewhat wider sources than the above (and I believe this is the first time I have quoted from PCMag, though I'd have to check that). And by the way, I do not quote as often as you claim but rather when appropriate.

    It seems, judging from your above post, that you're really not interested in keeping to the issue in hand, i.e. discussing objectively the Webroot software (which I thought was the whole point of this Forum), and so I unfortunately see no further point in continuing this discussion. Which is a pity frankly.

    Wasn't me quoting some silly mags and CEO statements.

    You want talk about the software? Ok.
    Install WRSA in both an admin and standard account and tell me what you observe with the alerts (i.e: firewall alerts when it is set to warn for every outgoing connections)

    Watch out, this statistic just cover those end users that have OPSWAT free tool installed on their PC. Its likely covering only English language users but they claim that it is representative based on "the wide accessibility of our free tools". I could not find the user base of their free tool (i.e. not promising). :D

    Thanks, @fax.

    By the way, I recommend everyone look carefully at @guest's posts, particularly those of the last few days. They are all about attacking/mocking/sneering at people and groups of people They're full of veiled and not so veiled ad hominem innuendoes. And they're continually dissing people and groups of people. (Funny! That's kinda similar to what you find when you go over to the MT Webroot threads. Birds of a flock...?)

    I used to be badly bullied at school so I know a common schoolground bully when I see one—though I admit that this time it took me rather a long time to cotton on. OK, I know that's name-calling but I believe you should always call out a bully when you see one.

    I've decided to ignore this chap from now on.

    Grow up, guest...you know nothing about me or what I support/defend...I have used many AV/IS solutions right the way back to Dr Solomon's & ThunderByte (put that last one in your pipe & smoke it...respectfully, of course) through PC-Cilin, KAV, KIS, NAV, NIS and most recently WRSA. So I go with the flow, evaluate and then decide...I do not ram my views down other people's throats and certainly can back up my assertions with proof.

    As statement like "i do a statement it is based on fact i gathered after researching or using products" is NOT proof...so stump up on this or stop disparaging others products.

    End of...& over and out!

    Well said Muddy. That is my issue with both here and MWT. There are so many people out there bashing Webroot, but for what purpose? How does it hurt them that some of us choose to continue to use an AV that has worked tremendously well for us?! You can read and cite all kinds of test scores; what's most important is real life. And, I've not been infected for over 5 years using Webroot. (That doesn't mean that I'm considering changing from Webroot because of what I perceive that Carbonite has done to the AV.)

    My Dad did not use any AV solution with Windows 7 for over six years and never got infected!! What does that prove?

    I don't get infected either and that's not the point, IMO there's to much trolling going on in this thread and well at that other place trolling is the norm! If you don't like WSA don't use it, I do so I will keep using it. And Carbonite we don't know what's going on at this time...time will tell.

    The Webroot Filtering extension is a browser extension that protects your computer while you are online. When doing searches, it will display symbols next to your search results, called annotations, which show how safe or untrusted a site is..... I am not getting symbols next to my search results lately. Anyone else have the same problem.

    No issues here with Edge, IE11, Firefox and Chrome with Bing, Google and Yahoo searches which are only supported. Could work with others but are not officially supported. @Dragon1952 have you tried a reboot and if need be try a clean reinstall of WSA.

    I found out it works in Google and Bing search but not in Yahoo search. I just remembered that i blocked JavaScript for yahoo search in Chrome. WSA search is working again.

    And I am fervently hopeful that Carbonite will do an amazing job with WRSA. One good sign I have noticed lately is prominent advertisements for WRSA in a variety of unexpected websites such as photography forums, news sites, financial pages, guitar forums, etc.

    I have my checkbook in hand -- the instant WRSA gets their beta version to *release* status, I'm back on board.

    I do not know. I am not a selected beta tester (I wish I were). I'm sure that Triple Helix is a beta tester. Hopefully, TH will answer your question.

    I don't know either. The Webroot Beta Forum is close to dead, hardly any posts for days. Looks like major changes since switching to the new Webroot Forum software and Carbonite buying Webroot out. :(

    I don't quite get your point, Bill :doubt:. At present, the beta and consumer version are the same. Most of the time, the consumer release version is just one behind the beta version.

    Hmmm... I wonder why you ignored posts #4142 & 4144?

    The thrust of my concern -- WSA manifests no perceptible effort to stay abreast of contemporary malware developments.

    I no longer run WSA because of its amazingly poor record on those extremely rare occasions when it deigns to participate in objective testing (see test example HERE).

    Back in the days when I did run WSA, there was much discussion in this thread about betas, & screenshots of the beta's improved GUI, with expanded coverage reflected thereon. Despite WSA's poor test results, I stayed with WSA because of the posts & screenshots about the beta. All that time, my "released" version stayed the same, month after month after month. As far as the released version, WSA was in stasis. Even now, Wilder's most active update reporter (mood) is seldom ever seen or needed in this thread. So I ceased running WSA, even though my subscription then had over a year left before expiration.

    Out of curiosity, when was the most recent major systemic update to WSA? May I see a screenshot of WSA's current GUI?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    @ProTruckDriver -- Thanks for the link in your post #4146. As I read that Carbonite news release, I got the impression that Carbonite's primary emphasis for WSA is on its endpoint business.
    Sorry, but I just don't follow you, Bill.
    These days, Webroot doesn't have "major updates" but rather regular incremental updates (see this and this) —though recently less so as I imagine Carbonite/Webroot are working hard on the integration of their two products (see ProTruckDriver's post above). So I don't know where you got the idea that your "'released' version stayed the same, month after month after month". Nor your saying that you're waiting for Webroot to "get their beta version to *released* status", as the beta version is constantly being "released" since the consumer release version is generally always one version behind the regularly updating beta. Also, you will surely know that Webroot is cloud-based so most of the major changes happen at the backend and are invisible to us.
    Bill, I've got used to you being a hot-and-cold person with regard to Webroot: one moment you say you're about to enthusiastically come back on board with Webroot (see post # 4141), the next you talk as if it is a doomed product (see post # 4147). This is not new ;).
    In reality, Prevx>Webroot has always been a brilliant AV—certainly at least ever since I started using it in late 2006. Indeed, I consider my move to Prevx to be the single most important decision I ever made in my computing life. It has also always performed appallingly in AV tests—so much so that, in its day, Prevx refused even to participate in any AV test.
    @Muddy3 Currently Webroot has terrible detection rates from both its signatures and weak proactive protection. When tested against recent malware, it detects very little. I'm not bashing Webroot, for the sake it. I'm just stating facts, which I can prove with evidence.
    However, the reality is, that if you take a little bit of care and are careful about what files you open, then you may never actually encounter malware. I know that I personally never come across malware and I spend hours, every single day, surfing the web. The only time I get alerts from my antivirus are due to harmless PUPs which I knowingly download, occasional false positives and some alerts from its proactive protection, when I'm installing new software. In saying that, my point is that, if you take some care (which no doubt you do), then Webroot is probably going to work fine for you. The antivirus I use, is far from the best, but I like it and because I take some care, I feel that it is adequate.
    For someone who who isn't careful, they will get infected sooner or later, no matter what antivirus they use, but various other products will provide better protection, then Webroot.
    I would like to see Webroot improve as a product, so it can provide better protection and compete with the big name antiviruses.
