How do i run cmd prompt as admin when i can't right click because windows explorer always crashes. I want to run SFC /SCANNOW to see if it will fix the windows explorer right click crashing. I can't delete a downloaded installer because windows explorer will crash. I can't do a system restore because it says i have a A/V running. Can i do a system restore in safe mode.

I had to do a system restore in safe mode that fixed my windows explorer crashing problem. It took me back to just before i installed the August patches. I installed the patches again and the windows explorer crashing problem is gone for some reason.

Another way is to open the Task Manager. Click on File (top left.) Select 'run new task'. Enter cmd in the box and tick run with admin privileges.

    Or
Open the Run box. It'll either say, "This task will be opened with Administrator rights." in the dialog box itself & you're good. Then type cmd.

Holding down Ctrl+Shift whilst clicking will bring up a UAC prompt.

    2. Uninstall third-party add-ons
Many applications install add-ons in Windows Explorer, such as entries in the context menu. Although handy, they can also slow down or even crash Explorer. You should disable all third-party add-ons to see if any one of them were causing the problem. If fixed, you can re-enable the add-ons one by one to find the culprit .......... i did this but did not find any problems with any of them, but somehow it stopped the windows explorer crashing when right clicking. The next day the crashing started again. This time instead of one at a time i disabled all of them at once and then enabled all of them at once. This fixed the right click crashing again for however long it will last.

shellexview from nirsoft can do, autoruns von MS sysinternals can do also. 99,99% of all explorer crashes can be resolved this way.

I have not found any third-party add-ons that are crashing explorer yet. I disabled all of the third party ones and explorer was still crashing. When i enabled all of them again with Nirsoft, then explorer did not crash anymore until the next day.

You can try to force Windows to create a dump file of explorer.exe when crashes.

Save this in notepad as run.reg:

Run the file and import it in the registry. (Create a registry backup or a new system restore point before run it).

Now if explorer.exe crash again a dump file should appear in the C:\CrashDumps folder.

You can analyze the file using WindBG or similar debugger to see if you will find the culprit.

    Good luck!

Edit: You should be able to load this in WindBG as well:

    C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp\WER6B4F.tmp.mdmp

I disabled all the third-party add-ons to see if windows explorer would still crash. It still crashed so i enabled them all again. Explorer has been stable today since i only disabled the two AMD ATI dll's.

I have 22 new files created on 9/1/19 for internet explorer after i installed the August patches i would guess, and the exact day my problems started with windows explorer crashing. I would like to disable all 22 of them and see if win explorer remains stable, but windows warned me that doing it might cause a problem with windows not being able to boot.
