Having used Cyberfox for a long time I am sad to see it disappear. Are there any browser that match up to its security. I have tried Chrome but don't like it and it also messes up my m/c. Really looking for a good fork of FF.

    Thanks

cyberfox ever was crap. IMO was x64 only so stick with firefox and install ABP oder uBo. the major problem with forks are that they are not secure in time while firefox get updates or fixes very soon. if you have some special wishes concerning security we can help you out with settings.

Probably Waterfox, with an updated version that uses legacy addons and an alpha version.

Yeah, after several years of stability and high performance, I bemoaned the passing of the "ever was crap" Cyberfox as well.

So I returned to Firefox, having it as my primary browser (prior to Cyberfox) since it was called Phoenix.

In case you're not already familiar with these snooping tweaks:

legacy extension are a security issue - abandoned over a year ago only few are still under development like ublock origin legacy, but it is unsigned as all after the end.
thats why i offered help, not all users are aware of such custom tweaks which are possible. firefox offers all where other forks had set by default, and not always offering fortune with it. my user.js contain 98 by hand selected entries, not ransom and not before i had read the docs about. this includes telemetry, datareport, safebrowsing (which is replaced in several ways) and ofc outdated or vulnerable ssl3 certifications (5 at all -> rsa 128/256). valid from firefox 60esr up to firefox 70.

the major problem concerning forks that most of them are pretty close to dead. waterfox based on firefox 56 is going to be replaced from a built with a new gecko inside, IMO v68 esr. and all with the features and deprecations, so it wont be able to run legacy extensions as there is no API behind to run such extensions.

palemoon and basilisk are never ending trial versions and need fixes from firefox which is ofc a nose ahead. but same here - legacy extension are vulnerable and some of the need some preparations tun run on pm/bk - the internal code has been modified that much away from original. so they mandatory needed to remove the signing check which ofc makes pm/bk vulnerable to malware/adware extension and there is no control about.
about code - firefox is changing code again when reaching version 70. forks based on v56 or earlier need to reverse the code change or rewrite it completely because firefox is using another level of programming. sometimes it is not possible or it creates new vulnerabilities or issues when fixing those - you patch one and get two new.

afair cyberfox had a dark look - thats possible with ease to firefox.

Thank you for your detailed replies. It is difficult for us who are not techies to choose the right programs to use and trust. Cyberfox for me had a much easier interface than the new FF, but I guess I will get used to it.
