Korean Crypto Exchange ‘Prixbit’ Shuts Down Over Banking Woes

South Korea’s Prixbit cryptocurrency exchange has officially closed down.
In a website post dated Aug. 9 and entitled ‘Prixbitend,’ the exchange declared it would cease operations. The move was subsequently reported by local press.

An Aug. 19 report in BusinessKorea said that the failure of the exchange had to do with “financial difficulties” and that investors were concerned about their holdings.
BusinessKorea wrote that an estimated 200 Korean exchanges are in danger of closing down, a full 97 percent of the sector.

Cryptocurrency Pioneer David Chaum Is Working on New Digital Currency

David Chaum is a cryptographer that’s known in the cryptocurrency community for his 1983 invention “ecash”, an early variant of electronic money that leverages cryptography.
Now, the cryptocurrency pioneer is back to working on digital cash through a project called Praxxis. According to an announcement on the Praxxis website, Chaum has been working on the project with a design and development team for 6 months.

The announcement makes a bold proclamation that the consensus protocol developed by Praxxis overcomes the famous blockchain trilemma concerning the trade-offs between decentralization, security and scalability:

"The Praxxis consensus protocol simultaneously overcomes the scalability, privacy, and security challenges faced by legacy blockchains, the “trilemma”, to deliver the “purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash” that Satoshi called for in the first few words of his whitepaper. And Praxxis currency is also designed to leverage the power of its sister Elixxir’s privacy-protecting platform."
Praxxis says that they are using cryptography that is “fundamentally different” from cryptography that is “promulgated by government”.
The Praxxis team also says their blockchain can resist attacks from quantum computers.

The liquidator overseeing the slow death of New Zealand-based shitcoin factory Cryptopia has issued its latest update and states progress is “pleasing.”

However, it’s not all been plain sailing for liquidators Grant Thornton. It took several months for the liquidator to obtain Cryptopia‘s data from the exchange’s third-party data servers. What’s more, the data appears to show that users didn’t have individual wallets. Yikes.
Grant Thornton has now taken control of the data and moved it into a “safe non-hacked environment.”

According to the latest update, it’s become apparent that Cryptopia did not keep customer‘s cryptocurrency in individual wallets. As such, “it’s impossible to determine individual ownership using just the keys in the wallets.”

Problems with Amazon’s cloud service, AWS, are disrupting services at some cryptocurrency exchanges on Friday.
The Binance exchange is seeing problems internationally, according to its CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, who tweeted:

The KuCoin cypto exchange is also saying there are problems with its AWS Tokyo-hosted services.

As real estate news outlet Mansion Global reported on Aug. 22, Kuhn said his company takes much lower fees than the ones that card institutions impose on their clients, adding:
