I do read your posts. You often make extremely valid points. I just wish the proponents of WRSA would also read them, & all the other comments in this thread. If I didn't care about WRSA's success, I wouldn't even visit this thread. I think that holds true for all of us. A real friend will tell you if your breath stinks or your fly is unzipped. Others will just leave you to twist slowly in the wind while they snicker behind your back.

    OK ;).

Please note that my references to Webroot customer reviews were not to answer the question regarding its financial viability. I was addressing the two separate charges that guest makes in his posts against Webroot: its financial viability and its efficacity as a product. That was my reason for suggesting you read my post(s) again.

Pcmag hahaha hosting the most biased and sold reviewer the net ever had.
The guy is all about "mutual friendly gifts"

What I said, read carefully. Thanks.

Not a theory, it is a fact.

I don't even care of Carbonite. To me it is more the move of a company who wants to get a foot on the AV market to boost their own products sales rather than a real interest in Webroot.

It is not because it saved you from some old malware that Webroot is a top dog.
Webroot can't even protect against scriptors which is one of the main vector.

Yes, I know . Again, please read my post(s): this point was addressing PTD's statement not yours.

I still remember when Webroot Secure Anywhere failed to protect my friend's computer and my gaming machine (I recommended it for him).

My friend that was using Webroot brought me a Steam backup copy of Bordelands 2, that copy was infected with Sality that Webroot epically missed for months because it doesnt had/have a properly emulator so in the end I got infected too (I immediately noticed the damage after the execution and I had to use a backup).

Almost every antivirus solution could detect it except for Webroot, after that day I lost my faith in the product and never looked back, especially with its fiasco ransomware protection and hollow process vulnerability (and the annoying bugs with WRData).

Every vendor now has better cloud production, with similar system impact but with properly emulator/unpackers, behavior blocker, client and cloud machine learning and so on while Webroot is still in 2011.

The thing was promising at the beginning but quickly became smoke and mirror, only those with limited security skills praised it. But those who criticize it don't know how it works...
    lol best joke ever.

    Exactly.

What a load of utter tripe and fatuous, self important pronouncements...made on the basis of what...basically nothing but conjecture, etc. If you can substantiate any of this then please do so...otherwise they are nothing more than the aforementioned...CONJECTURE!

So do I. I remember where I bought my first Webroot Spy Sweeper. It was at Office Depot in May of 2004. I still have the big box it came in, The CD-Rom plastic holder and the CD-ROM and the Card with the Activation Code in good condition. Might be a Collectors Item one day. :D

So if they get modified on a reboot would this be true what @Muddy3 posted?
I wonder if these db files have anything to do with the Monitoring GUI shown on Webroot?
Where do the plist's on a Mac come into play as I posted Here from Webroot Support?

More I read forums, more I find unbearably ludicrous how some people emotionally defend to the last breath something not worthy anymore and on top of that, a software!!!!
As if they are married with it... :argh::argh::argh:

When you see top executives of a company "fleeing the ship like rats" , you don't need to be a genius to guess which direction it goes...

@ProTruckDriver now you have me looking up what the plist's are on a Mac.
    Researching Here and Here .

    Muddy3 said:
Regarding categorisation of files into (basically) three categories—good, bad and unknown—monitoring and restricting of privileges to unknown files, journaling and rollback (in the event that an unknown file is subsequently determined to be bad), the one difference regarding the above between Webroot for Mac and other versions of Webroot is that Webroot for Mac does not have journaling and rollback.

I'm not an expert but @Muddy3 seems to have it sorted out better then I.

Now Monitoring GUI, I want to think the db files must have something to do with it. The plist's are encoded with XML or XCode which is perserving these files which can be modified on a reboot.

Heck this is getting complicated and working my brain too much. All I really do know is Webroot has protected my Mac for 5 years without incident. If I am labeled a unwise to use Webroot because I do not know better. Well it is what it is. Using definitions or whatever Webroot uses has protected me and ALL of my systems thus far.

Backup & Sync is not a major deal for me because I have backups anyways and there are plenty out there to use. Password Manager swapped for LastPass is good for me.

Maybe too many "Bells and Whistles" to play with maybe happering Webroot's AV? Well I am a die hard for this AV and I stand by it ..for now o_O:rolleyes::argh:

@Muddy3 don't know who it is, don't care.
I just pointing the circus made by some when they got emotionally attached to a soft, defending it to the point they deny the critics and observations made by others (without even giving much evidences of the contrary) then tag the other party as heretics...It is close to madness to me...
I do understand liking a product, i do like some too, but i wont defend a product like crazy unless i'm a representative of the company; as a basic user, i would probably correct erroneous statements (if i have a valid proof) but nothing more.
A software is just a tool, you use it until it serves you no more, then shift to another if better.
You don't see a plumber defending his screwdriver's brand politics and design like security/privacy forum's people does.

Some should stop smoking weird herbs and drink some good tea to bring them back to reality.

He made a comment. Nothing wrong with that -- it's the nature of forums: people make comments. As to guest's remark about "fleeing the ship," check the June 2019 test results HERE. Scroll way down to the bottom of the list -- the very bottom. The good ship WRSA is holed below the waterline & taking water fast -- man the pumps! :'(

Thanks @SSherjj for researching the plist's. I'll probably do a little researching myself on how all this works on a Mac. I'll probably ask a few Mac experts on other forums also. I have to agree with you, it sure does get complicated. :argh:

Also to the members posting in this thread, can we stop the name calling. I don't care who started it. I like to see this thread continue and not be shut down because of name calling. Respectfully PTD. :)

I think you're overestimating me, Sherry. I have no idea if I'm right, heck I don't even have a Mac. I'm just trying to extrapolate from the information you and PTD have helpfully provided us and attempting to make logical conclusions..

Seems weird, WSA with traditional sigs not cloud-based, and lacking journaling and rollback— if that is indeed a correct analysis of the situation with WSA for Macs.
Thanks for the advice, PTD. You're definitely right in what you're counselling us.
