Cleanmgr+ (Improved Replacement for Microsoft Disk Cleanup)

- The only reason I use MS Disk Cleanup is that it's able to reduce the size of those infamous "C:\Windows\Winsxs\....." folder & (sub-)folder(s).
- And that's also precisely the reason why I hesitate to use this program. If something goes wrong with the clean-up of that folder then my system is "toast".

 

Cleanmgr+ will reduze size of the Component Store (WinSxS folder) using DISM and the /StartComponentCleanup Parameter.
The classic cleanmgr.exe is doing the same if you check the option "Windows Update Cleanup"

So the method is just as safe and I can almost guarantee that nothing "unpredictable" will happen.

 

- So the program uses the "DISM" command ?? Does that work on a Windows 7 system as well ?
- Or do I have to install additional MS software ?

 

- I tried that one command on my Windows 7 system but it gave an error "Command not recognized".

 

- I did some research and found this interesting article. It shows that a user of a Windows 7 can't use the DISM command. The user has to use the "Disk Clean-up" tool.

The program is great, I like it so much ... but please consider change the icon because IMHO is terrible if you use it on desktop compared to others, the transparent part is not great if you use an image as desktop wallpaper, look ate the image:

 

I have never really liked the icon either.
Unfortunately my icon design skills are not the best. I'll check deviantart to see if I can find one in the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial License

 

Who cares about the icon, it's the functionality that matters, icon is just a GUI thing

This is a nice substitute for CCleaner, no?

 

To Belim7 just an idea, a way to ever start Cleanmgr+ as admin. I know I can simply right click and start it as admin but is could be a nice idea.
In the image you can see an example, is TreeSize Free that has this voice in the setting to start automatically as admin
