- Ah, now I understand why the good folks at Piriform were "a bit slow" to release updates for other of their existing programs.

 

Interesting. So has anyone tried it yet?

 

It'd be awesome if it supports logging in with your Google Gmail to sync stuff with Chrome like bookmarks and whatnot

 

I still don't trust CCleaner. I'm certainly not going to put any of my information into a browser they made.

 

Indeed, I would not either, especially when I already have two browsers that are tweaked and "extensioned" to perform and secure things very well, plus PrivaZer. Out of curiosity's sake, if anyone could share personal observations regarding CPU and Memory use, that would be welcome info. This is more of a novelty to me at the moment. In view of some powerhouse browsers out there, will it sink or swim?

I use CCleaner portable, but I block it's outbound connections in firewall. I wouldn't feel comfortable using their browser though.

 

I wanted to download, but it offers me a stupid installer, not the full file. And weirdly enough, when I executed it, SpyShelter warned me about "direct disk access", which is very suspicious. But anyway, I do think that the browser offers interesting features.

 

Lest anyone forget the past...

 

Probably replied to the thread to voice and opinion and warn others of the dastardly deeds the company does.

And like others, I wouldn't trust anything they make nowadays. They were good up till about a year before avast took over. That's when I noted the very first hint of a downtrend.

It's not bad actually. A very clean, light look and it's fast. Very few extensions but password manager Lastpass is one of them. I'll give it a whirl even though Piriform has burnt a few bridges in recent times.

Edit 12Apr: Not bad overall but is a bit of a HD-space hog. Uninstalled, sticking with my trio of Opera, Vivaldi & Firefox.

 

Yes, but the thing is, it protects against tracking from other companies, but can we trust Avast not to spy on us.

Can someone please summarize for me the "dastardly deeds the company does"? Or direct me to an article about it?

I have used CCleaner for years and often recommend it. But I know companies change and are sold. Waterfox and StartPage were sold to the same advertising company, so I no longer use either.

Is there a better or more trustworthy product for the functions CCleaner performs?

In spite of all the above, I still choose to use it. On most of my PC's, however, I use the portable version. I have not liked the alternatives.

 

Same here, The alternatives are inferior, some don't have the ability to install the Windows Store apps which are uninstallable, some have buttons and ads to upgrade to pro like Wise Disk Cleaner, etc. It's still the best in terms of cleaning and tools but I also use the portable version since years and simply deny it internet access from the Windows Firewall.
