I think I might have found a scam site. It is Hakaly.com a shopping site. Based on some research it is only 1 month old. I found it while shopping for an Apple TV 4K streaming device. It came up in Google shopping results. That unit ranges from around $170 to $210 depending on memory size and retailer. The Hakaly site lists it for $18.90. It also has some other specials with similar prices - example/ Roku Ultra for $15. It dos have most of its other products for normal prices, so I thought being a new site, it might have a loss leader as a way to get its name out. I started to order the Apple TV 4K unit. I registered an account. I gave my real name, mailing address and phone number (land line.) I DID NOT enter credit card information. I decided to put the purchase on hold. I sent the company an email asking about the price on the product via its listed contact message, support@hakaly.com. That email came back undeliverable. I confirmed that I typed its address right. With that email coming back undeliverable, the newnish of the site, and the very low prices, it seems to be a scam. Questions: 1) Is there much concern with entering my name, mailing address and phone number - again please note, I did not give any credit card information. I am sure it will get me on some solicitation list that they might sell to other scammers. Any risk beyond that? And if so, what can I do now? 2) I would like to report this site if possible so that it can maybe be shutdown or at least scam warning sites will learn about it. Is there a way to report it to any authorities?
1. Well seeing that you can get almost anybodies name, address and phone number for any phone book I doubt it. My concern would be if there was some type of malware on the site, if your running decent protection I wouldn't worry.
Hi I wouldn't have entered my real details, when they have only been up for such a short time, & with no history etc etc. Anyway, lesson learned for next time. Here's a bunch of info i was able to discover, Very easily. They call it a "Store Location" at 9401 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax, VA, 22031, United States BUT, https://www.google.com/maps/place/9...:0x9e2f1961aa03592b!8m2!3d38.83975!4d-77.2705 Various listings on here at that ZIP code https://duckduckgo.com/?q=9401+Little+River+Turnpike,+Fairfax,+VA,+22031,+United+States&t=h_&ia=maps There might be a store somewhere there ? If you want to take it further, you could contact any/all of the following & see if they are genuine, or not. If not you could complain to them. "We only accept payment through PayPal & stripe" Domain Name: HAKALY.COM Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.namecheap.com Registrar URL: http://www.namecheap.com Updated Date: 2019-04-05T02:31:25.00Z Creation Date: 2019-04-05T02:31:25.00Z Registrar Registration Expiration Date: 2020-04-05T02:31:25.00Z Registrar: NAMECHEAP INC Registrar IANA ID: 1068 Registrar Abuse Contact Email: abuse@namecheap.com * OrgName: Cloudflare, Inc. I contacted namecheap first. Its abuse department said it has no handle on data to that site and would not be able to help me. It suggested I contact the hosting company. I just an email to Cloudfare about the situation.
I noticed that map also. It might indicate a fake address but Google maps does get a lot of addresses wrong. I have found it off by miles before. So it could be bad Google map data also.
If you google the address it comes up as the City Gates Church. I found this thread by searching Google to validate the site after I found the site also shopping for Apple TV 4K units and doubted the price. I say it’s definitely a scam.
@ nine9s Of course, just because an address is given doesn't mean it's where they are located. They could be anywhere ! If in the USA there is a requirement for a business to be registered with an agency and/or city council etc, you could check with them too. Don't forget checking with Paypal & Stripe as well. @ 50stater Welcome to Wilders. Yes it definately looks dodgy. This needs reporting ASAP
your data is already in the hands of hackers most likely so i wouldn't worry too much about it (did you give your data to a service to make a payment or order something? that site/server probably got hacked or one of them for sure), do report the site to goggle, AV companies, ip abuse sites and even to Police, at least there will be some telemetry for bad actors
