My concern would be that if IBM owns it Red Hat will become closed source. In my opinion if that happens it is no longer is Linux. At least I wouldn't use it if there were open source alternatives. Hope to be wrong.
RHEL is already as closed as GPL license permits. That's why there are distributions such as CentOS. Anyway traditional closed source software is becoming thing of the past. Nowadays Cloud especially SaaS are replacing it. Traditional server distributions are being replaced by things like Kubernetes, OpenShift.

Hi guys, Is this going to affect the confidence people put in Red Hat? And how is this IBM takeover going to affect CentOS? Will CentOS development continue as before? Any danger some commercial code or data collection code will be introduced in CentOS? Thanks
I'd hope that this would allow more EU government procurement of a desktop linux-based system, to rattle the MS cage and get more competitive desktop licensing. The more money that flows into open source developers wallets (even if "only" for support), the better.
